How will this affect me/standing out

I'm Asian girl with aiight grades (3.55ish UW GPA) but a high ranking at a good public school (top 5% in my class of 1390). My SAT is 2310, ACT 34.

I'm also in JROTC, in the second-highest leadership position (first is reserved for West Point hopefuls), shoot rifles (lots of 1sts in regionals), and am the captain of its academic team (8th internationally).

Does the JROTC bit help? It's my greatest passion, and I'm also planning to write essays on it. My instructor, who loves me and has known me since fish year, will be writing me a rec that will be kick butt.

I know Pomona looks for people that are "unusual" - so is an asian girl that has good-ish grades, high test scores, and shoots rifles for JROTC a standout or a small blip on the radar? I do other things as well, but just based on this....o__o

Come on, 65 views and no answers at all? :/

I mean, it might help you. I really doubt any of those 65 views were Pomona admission counselors so it probably wouldn’t help you much anyway. Pomona doesn’t have an ROTC program just so you know. In my opinion the only aspect of what you said that will make you stand out is the rifle part and the academic team might help a bit too.

Yeah, I wasn’t planning to do ROTC in college anyway. xD but thanks, I appreciate it :D

whether or not you stand out will be how you describe/write about it. Done well, it will be a boost, if not, then it won’t be…
