I REALLY want to get into Pomona but...

Hi there! I am a Chinese female and I really really really really REALLY want to get into Pomona (I'm about to enter my senior year). I'm not a genius or any of that sort, but I really am committed and I'm willing to go through lots of struggling in order to learn and improve myself. To get a better sense of me, here's a profile of my high school life.

My weighted (including freshman year) is 4.13. Without freshman year, it's 4.38. So basically, my brother told me that freshman year didn't count at all so I didn't exactly work hard in freshman year, but I now learned that freshman year DOES matter for private schools. Sigh

As for unweighted, it's a bit funky (I need to add in another class for my calculations but just to be safe, the gpas i'm about to list won't include that class). Unweighted (incl freshman) is 3.69 and w/o freshman it's 3.71.

I generally have improved progressively if you look at the weighted scores. And I am not in the top 12% of my class (i'm sad!).

My extracurriculars:
-High School Dance Company (full membership)
-Pres/founder of high school Octagon Club (volunteers club...I still need to count my hours (do you actually need to count hours?)); it's a branch of JOOI (Junior Optimist Octagon international)
-first lt. governor representing San Francisco for Pacific Central District Octagon
-full membership for CSF
-full membership for Shield and Scroll (an elite group that helps the school)
-2 years as peer mentor
-full membership in Spirit Committee (class of 2011 yes!)
-a member of NSHSS for 3 years

For the past summers AND this summerr
-took ATDP at Berkeley (2x) (ok 1x was the summer after eighth grade going into ninth grade...does that count?)
-interned for a senator (2x)
-volunteered at stern grove (1x)
-volunteered at ucsf (2x)
-Outward Bound Leadership course (1x)

As for my SAT scores, i got a 2060 first try, then worse on the second try. I'm going to try it one last time in October..hopefully i will do better. For SAT subjects, I'm waiting for 2 more scores, but so far for US history I got 700. Idk if i will use that one.

Overall, my scores are nowhere near impressive, I know. But I really do work hard (paid off this semester!) and I'm more of a person who improves over time rather than know how to do something at the spot.

Last question: Should i go for early admissions?!

PLEASE any former/current student, can you please give me any advice? You have no idea how much I want to get into that school...I just don't know how to portray that if my scores aren't high enough (makes me want to pull my hair!!) please, it would mean very much to me to hear any advice. Thank you!

P.S. Do i need to get stellar grades for senior year too, or are B's ok? All my classes will be weighted except Dance.

Fall semester for senior year is important, but second semester is not so important. Early decision boosts your chances, but only apply if finances are not a concern.

The great thing about loving Pomona is you have the rest of the consortium to apply to as well. Scripps may be a wonderful choice here. Take a look at Pomona’s common data set–what percent were not in the top 10% of their class being a key piece of data. Understand it’s especially hard to get in if you’re from CA which I’m assuming you are. So chances of a student from CA getting in with below average rank and SAT? You do the math. And of course Bs in senior year will not help at any top college.
