I am heart-set on wanting to go to Purdue University here in Indiana (i’m an in-stater) and I was told while I was up there to AVOID Ivy Tech community college because if I took courses at Ivy Tech that can transfer over to Purdue, snobbishly, because they are a 4 year state college and IVY Tech is a 2 year community, Purdue has the power to cut both/either the credits you earn and/or the grade value. Like for example, I want to pursue undergraduate Cell Biology at Purdue (I’m also a junior), but these are two biology classes that are offered at IVY Tech that could transfer to Purdue. I don’t understand the undistributation here with the XXXX.
Ivy Tech Community College-IN BIOL 105 † Biology I Molec/Cell Processes 5 BIOL 1XXXX Biology I 5
Ivy Tech Community College-IN BIOL 107 † Biology II Diversity Of Life 5 BIOL 1XXXX Biology II 5
Here is a physics course that is optional to take (selective for Purdue, general edu. for IVY Tech) that looks to be able to transfer full credit.
Ivy Tech Community College-IN PHYS 101 Physics I 4 PHYS 21800 General Physics 4
PHYS 22000 Gen Physics 4
I feel I could take the course cheaper at IVY Tech and transfer the credits I earn over to Purdue to add to my degree there, but does Purdue have the power to say"well we are a 4 year college; IVY Tech is a 2 year, so there education ‘rigor’ is not as strong as us, so we are going to (either) give you only 2 or 3 credits for this course and/(or), even though you got an A in the class, we will drop it down to a B. You don’t like it? Deal with it because you should have known we would have expected more from you in High School." or “We know you might try to go to IVY Tech to save you some cash, so we won’t even accept you!” or whatever the cause. I just feel like if I can save some $$$$ taking classes cheaper at IVY Tech and NOT be dis-credited or be given a lesser grade value compared to Purdue, then why not, right? Also, How does the undistributed credit deal work out and does Purdue not even accept that many transfes from IVY Tech because they see students there trying to outsmart the “BIG SCIENCE” college of Indy?
