How would you describe Amherst?

<p>Diverse? Liberal? Conservative? Conformist?
Trying to get a feel from those that go or have gone there in recent years?
Also, do students sometimes take classes at Hampshire, Smith, Mt. Holyoke, etc. or not?
Are Amherst kids welcoming to the others and vice versa?</p>

<p>My son recently graduated from Amherst. He took a couple classes at Smith and did some non-academic EC-type activities at Hampshire. He always felt welcomed at the other schools.</p>
