<p>I heard history is in the top 20, but how do you rank history anyways?</p>
<p>I've enjoyed the history classes I've taken so far at UIUC (I'm considering a history minor) but be warned, they're a lot of reading and note-taking, memorization, and sometimes lectures are not that interesting.</p>

How IS the history department at Illinois? Does anyone know it's ranking?
I want to goto a law school after, should I transfer to another major? I am just so confused.

<p>I'm a history major at the U of I right now. There's lots of people who major in history or political science or double major in both who are preparing to go on to law school. Since UIUC is a major research school, the history is very highly ranked because all the professors in the department are required to do indepth research on their specific focus and produce publications, so they are all incredibly knowledgable. Do NOT take the 100-level history classes as an indication of the department as a whole as these classes are designed to meet general education requirements for the whole university.</p>
<p>If you're planning to go to law school, the history department here WILL teach you how to do research, how to interpret documents, and how to write well. I wouldn't really suggest political science right now as they are under-staffed at the moment.</p>

But I have a question. Why is the poli sci currently under staffed? Is it because of lack of funding? I know that Illinois is more known for their engineering, but does that affect the funding of LAS?</p>
