how would you rate the academics? 1-10

i'm transferring and i give my school a 3.

how is UMD-CP?

That would definitely depend on the major…

Euro is 1000% correct. What is the major? Criminal Justice for UMDCP is ranked as the best in the nation.

Yes, depends on the major, but additionally, it would be difficult to glean much useful information in this way. For instance, I would personally have difficult “rating” my classes, considering I have very little to compare them to (besides high school). I wouldn’t know how strong they were compared to other college classes, not having attended another college before :p

i’m planning on doing either geography or economics.

i’ve heard GW is a bit easier & people mainly focus on their internships.
but then again, you’re all right, it does depend on your major, now that you mention it

I don’t believe the economics program here is /as/ difficult as it is at other schools, because the requirements are somewhat lax (it’s a B.A., not a B.S., so you don’t -have- to take as many quantitative classes or high level math classes as you might at other schools to complete the degree). That said, you could certainly construct a challenging economics schedule by choosing quantitative classes and supplementing the degree with high level math courses. I think the quality of economics professors at MD is good, the offerings are fairly wide, and certainly the math program here is well known for being challenging (though the quality of the professors is sometimes hit or miss). In my opinion, you can make this major hard if you want, or “easy” (relatively speaking) if you want. Make sure to research the quality of the profs beforehand. Some econ teachers are fabulous and others, not so much.

Geography I do not think is particularly relatively difficult or relatively easy at MD. Most people who have taken geography courses to supplement their majors found their other major much more difficult (then again, I’ve only discussed this with an astrophysics major and a chemistry major, arguably two of the harder courses at the school, hah). I know two geography majors and they enjoy the course a lot.

I think overall MD is known for being a more academic school than GW, but I’m not sure you can really say the geography and econ classes in particular will be more difficult or of better quality at MD. They are not the most touted academic programs at the school but I do not think they are bad either.
