Howard BS/MD 2014

Hey all, so I just sent a quick email to the office wondering if we will get the news before May 1st for an interview or regular track. I will let you know what I hear back!

Has any received the invitation for Interview for 2015 Howard BA MD program

Hi, I am new to this blog. I tried to read all the comments. But I may have missed lot of them. I see the last comment from sheep47. Based on that I am assuming that no one has received the interview or regular track reply yet for the Howard BA MD program for the 2015 interviews. Based on the last year, we should be start receiving the letters for the interviews this week. If anyone has received the letter or if everyone is still waiting, please reply. Thanks in advance.

@sheep47, I sent them several emails on preprofessional@howard.edu in the past and recently as well, but never received a response. I also, called them several times on (202) 238-2363, and no one picks up the phone. Left them voice mails as well but no one ever returns the calls. I’m wondering what kind of school are we going to be attending if we are accepted?

In last one week, I have called them too several times. You are right no one picks up the phone. The recording says they will get back in 24 hours. No one has called back. Also, no response when I sent them email. So, no one has received the interview invitation yet on this group. Please post your response.

I have not received anything yet either. I also have sent them multiple emails over the past month, but I have gotten nothing back…

The last thing I heard from the office was in March saying my application was complete and to not contact the office because they will contact us when they made their decisions (I emailed them anyways because it is getting LATE). If communication on a program like this (which to the applicants is really important) is faulty I worry about how the school on the whole. Also, I find it concerning that the program does not post stats at all…

Thanks for the comments. Looks like everyone is in the same boat. Nothing from the dual BA MD committee about the interviews. Reading the last year comments. Last year people received the interviews notification on April 14. Actual interviews on May 2, 7 and 14. The results announced on May 22. Today is April 15. Since they are not responding, I guess we just have to wait and see.

most colleges say reply by may 1st…so like how does this work?

I believe all of us have received the capstone scholarship offer for which the deadline to accept is May 1. They want $300 with the acceptance also. How can you accept this scholarship if you don’t know if you are going to this school? Any advice from anyone?

You can only accept the scholarship after you pay the enrollment fee! So you have to decide by May 1st!

Is there a Facebook page for the Howard University BS MD program? My son got into the program for this year.

@MichBSMD I have a son who is 13 years old and a high school freshman. He says that he wants to be admitted into this program and I want to help him achieve this dream. Do you have an email address where we can chat? I’d also like to hear from others who have completed their first year.

@med2serve @omhs23

after being in this program for a year now, can you tell me a little about the experience. Was the workload hard? We’re you able to use ap credit or class, especially science classes? Would you recommend it? I’m considering applying for the 2015-2016 cycle and would love to hear some first hand experience.

**** ignore the user name, I want to be a physician now. Lol ****

@sheep47 @MichBSMD @AccMdYrTwntyOne @number786 @chihuahua1 Us 2nd-year students were taking Organic Chemistry over the summer, which was why we were not active on this forum! We will be coming back and meeting you all on Thursday and Friday, which is when we move back in.

@futurepharm – The workload was not difficult during the first year, but the summer courses will be difficult because of the reduced semester length. AP credits will not count for any science classes because they want you to repeat them - even if you got a 5. However, the experience of taking the AP classes ensures that you get an A in the college course. The 5’s in non-science AP’s will help you get credit for English, Languages, etc.

When do you find out if you have actually been accepted into the bs/md program? Like someone said earlier, colleges want decisions by May 1st, and if interviews are only being given after May 1st…then how will it work? Because truthfully, Howard is high up on my list, but ONLY if I get into the program.

Also, if you received a full ride scholarship ship (which is traditionally for 4 years), do you only have to pay for the last 2 years of medical school? (Which would reduce total debt immensely)

@ZBlue17 The interviews are indeed after May 1st. They want to be sure that those who are planning to be in the program are 100% committed to Howard, that is why It’s set up like that. I believe you have to pay your enrollment fee before your application can be processed to(correct me if I’m wrong, I didn’t quite look at the email they sent about the program closely).

It is my understanding that the scholarships continue well into the 1st 2 years of med school!

Well good thing I’m willing to commit to Howard no matter what. If I get into the med program it will be a lucky turn of events
