Howard BS/MD Program 2017 applicants

I just wanted to start a thread for next year. If anyone knows someone who was accepted into this program, please message me.

bump

I have applied for the program. Have you received a letter of admission from them yet?

Same here, I received my admission letter. What’s everyone’s stats?

Admission decision in email form, not in the mail yet*

@jolealea

Do they send out acceptances/rejections in March now?

Or did you receive an interview decision?

btw I’m a junior in high school interested in this program :-h

I got my interview notification in mid April last year. I expect it wil be about the same time this year

Hey,…do you know if the scholarship covers the entire 6 years of the BS/MD program

Scholarship covers first two years, then pays up to the difference for the middle two years of med school, leaving a deficit of 10-20k depending. The last two years are scholarship free, with one having to pay entirely for medical school.

For bs/dds, if one scores well, you can receive an additional full scholarship for Dental school. Not sure about medical school.

@Nedcone
Alright. DM’d you

I’m a junior in high school living in Michigan and I’m very interested in the bs md program at Howard. I’m just wondering if my highschool stats place me in a competive status against other applicant. I mean they aren’t the best but here you go:
3.92 weighted gpa (6 AP Classes taken 3 more senior year and going to dual enroll at a college near me to take cell bio, also have taken all Honors and AP classes)
I’m try to get over 1500+ on the New SAT
Started a Black Student Union Club at my school
HOSA (Health Occupation Student Association) member
MSA (Muslim student association) president
National Honors Society
Shadowed 10+ Hours at Physician
Still working at a nursery Home
Volunteered during the Flint Water Crisis

I’m still growing my application and studying very diligently for the next SAT since I’m only a junior. Any tips as to how I could better my chances of getting in and If my chances are high or low? Also how many people applied and how many got into the program

Thank you!

Interviews are typically in May and you will most likely find out if you are in the program at the end of May or June

It’s your interview that will most likely get you into the program because once you meet the stats and show that you did volunteering in an undeserved population, they will be inclined to call you for an interview. In the interview you really need to show that you are interested in Howard, not just in BSMD.

You have to be invited to the program correct?

You don’t have be invited. I think anyone can apply @macaroon14
Only some get interviews

Is there a possibility that a HU student can transfer to the bsmd prog at the end of the freshman year?

Did everyone get their decision letter for the program on the 12th? I did not get a rejection or acceptance.

@hubsmd

Yup!! There definitely is. You should try to do the HCOP program too. I think it helps a lot with admission into BSMD

Cookiestar, thank you for your reply… Would the freshman transfer be as competitive as this? Do you have any idea what the requirements would be as a freshman? What is HCOP?
I am from the Caribbean and I have not done any research and shadowing, will this be a problem. Thank you once again for replying.

Yes, I received an email about the HCOP. Sadly, I am not a US citizen and not eligible to attend.
Do you have any idea about…
What requirements are needed for this freshman transfer?
What percentage of HU undergraduates on meeting the requirements, go on into their medical college?
