I got my acceptance letter at 6:41am on December 16th. That whole night was stressful. Just a warning for anyone whose only experice with HU’s CP time, my sister went to HU 2013-2015 and it was a mess. The admissions and financial aid office was a mess. The school itself is wonderful, the problem is the administration. I’m still willing to take the risks because they have such wonderful programs and just about any prestigious HBCU is like this from what I heard. Congrats to everyone accepted and to anyone who got pushed to regular decision, all hope is not lost. Get everything in, call that office, contact them. Stay on top of it. KEEP DOCUMENTATION.
Also, has anyone started a gc for accepted Ohio students, we need to connect.
So about these scholarships
Don’t expect scholarship notifications any time soon yall. Class of 2021 here and they told me the Friday before decision day what my financial aid package was and that was only because someone physically went down to the school to ask lol.
@saphikuri Yikes! My daughter is quite keen on Howard, but at the end of the day, she is deciding between a few schools and we can’t afford to make a decision without knowing what the final cost will be.
We won’t be visiting unless we know whether or not its doable financially and DD won’t commit to a school she’s never seen. She already has close to a full ride offer elsewhere. If Howard doesn’t notify us in January as stated, we will walk away, I’m not playing this game. This is a very expensive, highly regarded educational choice. It’s reasonable as a prospective parent and student to hold admissions accountable and expect them to keep their word.
why are they like this with information rolling out though? What exactly are the admissions people doing?
@idontdontknow23 good question. From the chatter I’ve read here, communication issues are an ongoing problem with the admin/admissions staff. Deadlines are missed regularly and leaving students and parents guessing what is going on seems all too common.
@amalari Yeah, you really have to be on Howard. Howard admissions personally courted me… and still didn’t tell me they were offering me a full ride while knowing I was considering other schools. @idontknow23 Howard’s admin means well, but EVERY school (including the grad schools, law school etc) has their fin aid processed through the same office so they get caught up. I would honestly start calling the financial aid office around the beginning of Feb if you havent heard about your aid package by that time. Also, @SnowflakeDogMom, negotiation is always viable. I have some friends who filled gaps in their aid packages by just talking to the people in financial aid and convincing them to give them more money. HOWEVER, understand that the c/o 2022 is up against mistakes Howard made with my class so you might have to approach them a bit differently. They over-enrolled + gave away a looooooooooooooooooot of big scholarships + accepted a lot of people in my class who ended up not being able to pay their balances so fin aid in general might be stingier than usual.
Are any other students having an issue with not even getting a decision from Howard? I feel like they are basically telling us whatever sounds good for the day. My daughter applied early action, 2 different people have confirmed she was considered early action but to this day we have not received a decision, no type of communication. I was told a decision was sent to her, but maybe they made an error when they were typing her email address, yet I confirmed with them what they had was correct. I was also told last week something was already in the mail to her. have not gotten that either. I was also told in December that she would have a decision no later than December 30th. I was told on January 2nd to send an email, the email response said they would respond to me within the first two weeks of January still nothing. I think I have called Howard every week since December 15th. At this point I think we are ready to move on. It is really a shame.
@Poobear that’s really strange. I’m sure you already checked, but when my email was sent, it didn’t appear in my regular inbox on gmail. It appeared in my updates (which I check often) so luckily I saw it. The level of incompetence this school has showed so far is unfortunate and I hope your daughter receives her decision. I’m really nervous because other schools have sent me offers and I don’t want to reject them banking on Howard and then get to Howard and be played around with. I REALLY want to go here, but as of right now, I can’t attend.
What is everyone’s perspective major?
Biology
Trying to decide if I want to double major or honors in communication or political science
Does anyone know the lowest gpa that got in.
Daughter finally received her acceptance.
If you’ve been accepted and are worried about not receiving any follow up, they sent an email telling us they will be sending out packages soon and ASD is on April 20th. #HU22
Has anyone received their packets yet?
I haven’t gotten my packet yet, Howard needs to improve their communication with accepted applicants… Otherwise, students will accept other offers.
As a parent, I am completely unimpressed and underwhelmed at their ability to communicate with their prospective students.
