He should be fine. My daughter scored an 85 like 3 years ago and got into the program even though she later declined enrollment for other options
Hi, did anyone have trouble with the taking the proctored test on a school issued computer ?
My daughter used her personal computer, an Apple, and downloaded Firefox but still had issues staying connected. It totally disconnected on her right before she was about to finish the test. She had to restart the computer and log in again. Luckily they had her previous answers saved and she was able to finish it. However she didn’t score as high as she would’ve liked and is a bit disappointed. Does anyone know if there is a minimum score you have to obtain on the ALEKS test to get into the program
I’m sorry to hear about your daughter’s technical difficulties. My son was ready to go at 12 and followed all of the steps. Once he got to the chat box, it just kept displaying “connecting”. Unfortunately, they wouldn’t troubleshoot with us because we weren’t on a personal device. We’ve rescheduled for a later test on a personal device.
From the thread above, I think the “target” is low to mid 80’s but it sounds like Howard will take the test score into consideration with all of the information collected to date. So perhaps, things will balance out…Good luck.
@Georgie_F thank you for your insight on the test. Wishing your son the best of luck throughout this process!!!
Phew! Apparently it was harder than she expected. We’ll see if she makes it to the next stage. Good luck everyone!
Got the same feedback from my son…he said he gave it his best shot. That’s all I can ask…Good luck to everyone!
I had a question about rooming. I know it is a bit premature, but I’d still like to ask. Is it possible for me to get a single room if I get accepted into the program? I have been recently diagnosed with IBS and am a very light sleeper, so I was wondering if the program people would be receptive to giving me a single room. I don’t know if anyone in the program has been given a single room, but I would appreciate it if an exception could be made for me
OMG, are you sure you aren’t talking about my daughter!?!?!
Almost the exact same issue. Started exam on her personal Apple device, was told due to tech difficulties she’d have to use an alternate. Switched her over to my Windows laptop. . . Session disconnect after an hour or so. Fear and trepidation ensued. Regained access but a total loss of composure. Bad result. . . sadness.
@Al_Hutchins Let’s hope they have a little grace in selection given all of the technical issues that developed. I’m wishing all the candidates good luck and all the parents of candidates - Congratulations! This is a milestone to have guided our kids to a level where they are being considered for this prestigious award. What an accomplishment for them and us.
We will see where the road takes us from here. Stay positive!
Hi @applesoranges24. I have heard of students getting special housing accommodations at Howard, but I do not know if your issues would fall under those accommodations or not. This year, the junior and senior scholars stayed in a dorm room that has suite-styled living for students with separate bedrooms, but they still share a common area (bathroom, and kitchen area). The freshmen and sophomore scholars stay in a dorm where 2 students share a room and bathroom. You may want to ask about special accommodations once you get the offer (I am speaking it into existence) and good luck.
So sorry about the network issues with your daughter. That can be very frustrating. Any score from 76 and above is required to place into the highest level of Math
But how the score factors into the admission process, that I do not know
Hi @ChangeTheGame,
While we wait to learn if our children advance to the next round or not, any tips that can help us to prepare?
Thank you!
Hey Georgie_F, my 1st piece of advice is to help your kids relax before Selection weekend. I told my oldest to treat selection weekend as her own interview of Howard University and the KSSP program so I know she asked the type of questions that you can not find on the school’s website. The other thing I wanted my kids to do was be authentic and at the same time be the best versions of themselves. I let them both know that they had been preparing for this program before the KSSP ever existed, and I wanted them to just enjoy the moment and not worry (this was a hard one) about the result, because the journey was what was really important. Good Luck to your child!
I have a question? if i do not get selected for KARSH MD PHD… will it negatively affect my application for BA MD ?
I don’t think so. Both programs run independently of one another to the best of my knowledge
just got notification that I am a finalist!! Good luck to all!!
Congrats! My son got his notification as well and he’s made it to the final round
Congratulations! Now you are all set for the selection weekend which I believe is this Friday and Saturday as per their schedule! Rooting for you!
