@veejay3 She is majoring in Biology. We are trying to wait until we have all packages in hand before she makes her final decision.
@ChangeTheGame Hopefully so. I am optimistic that she will make the right decision based on fit AND finances
Does anyone know how many students have been at the semifinalist interviews over the past few years?
@“ka.2001” The students chosen for selection weekend are finalists and my wife counted 87 students last year who attended selection weekend during the student introduction (I know some students where running a little bit late so there were a few more than that)… They noted that a little over 100 students where invited last year and they will select 25-30 students to become Bison STEM Scholars. There is a picture on the Bison STEM Scholars Program Instagram page with the finalists dressed up sitting down at the closing meeting last March (It is next to a text picture talking about the key factor for happiness).
Has anyone received a follow up email with details of the weekend yet?.
@koreama1 We JUST received the follow up email about an hour ago.
@veejay3 YES! We just received as well!!
Hello parents,
My daughter has not received anything yet. No email saying she is finalist and no email saying she is not a finalist. Any thoughts?
To the parents who have received finalists details, what day and time have the young people been asked to be on campus? We might have to make preemptive travel arrangements.
@trob71 Registration is from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Friday 3/22 in the student’s assigned dormitory (they are still working on assignments). Opening program at the School of Business starts at 4 p.m. and parents are dismissed at 5:30 p.m.
veejay3, Thanks a lot. Maybe the delay is a good thing, I don’t know. Even if she is not selected as a finalist, we still need to learn more about the university in order to make a final decision.
@trob71 Last year, my daughter and her best friend traveled to visit Howard on a Spring Break bus tour sponsored by the HU Atlanta Alumni Association. Not sure where you’re located, but it might be helpful to see if an alumni group near you sponsors any type of informational program to learn more about the school.
Sooooo … hypothetically speaking if I never hear anything back at all… what do you all sugggest I do? I’ve tried reaching out to them several times. I don’t want to bombard them further because I know a lot of kids applied.
@whyamisogood I would start by just checking to make sure that the e-mail did not get caught in a spam/junk filter for your e-mail account (I have had some weird stuff like that happen before). With my daughter last year, we received the initial invite to selection weekend (on Feb 16th), but we did not receive another e-mail until March 5th saying we did not RSVP and they wanted to confirm that my daughter no longer wanted to be considered for the Bison STEM Scholars program. My daughter was left off of the e-mail asking for the RSVP so my daughter responded to that e-mail and I called the Bison Stem office and got everything taken care of. You can also try reaching out by Facebook Messenger and I would call the office if you have still not received word one way or the other. I will send you a PM.
Okay I’ll check my spam. Thanks for the helpful info. I’ll be sure to keep you guys posted.
still nothing. called all numbers, no response. emailed, no response, will email again. went ahead and made travel arrangements. Any other suggestions?
@trob71 They are on Spring Break this week. Last email I received said they would respond to emails on Monday, March 18.
ok thanks
Hi @ChangeTheGame I am trying to prepare for my finalist interview for the bison stem scholarship, and I wanted to get to some helpful information/tips. Do you remember what questions they asked your daughter on the interview? What topics were covered in the interview? Who were the interviewers? How was the interview formatted? Did she have to do any activities during the interview? Did she have to do any group activities?
@JCarter20199 I sent you a PM with a general thoughts and things remembered about Selection Weekend. Hope it helps and good luck to you.
@trob71 Sorry about that. I knew it was Spring Break for my daughter, but I was not thinking about the fact that the administrators are out as well during the week.
