How'd we get the allowances?

Well, according to the "Basic Fiancial Information for First-year students" sent by the admission office, all 1st year students would get the books/supplies allowance, which is $ 1,344, and many other allowances like travel allowance and personal expenses allowance. Then how'd we get them? In our commodore card? BTW I am an international student. Thanks in advance for any comments!

I’m sorry to have to tell you this, but those “allowances” come from you or your parents and are the anticipated amount of extra money that you will need for books, supplies, personal expenses, etc.

You can choose to put some of this money on the Commodore Card, but my son preferred to have most of the money in his checking account.

All those expenses are just what Vanderbilt estimates you’ll be paying for things during your first year at college (usually a HIGH estimate, you can expect to spend a little less).

If you received a grant for 55-60 thousand, some of these expenses WILL be covered by the grant. If this is the case for you, I’d talk to the financial aid office, but basically they’ll just put the extra money onto your Commodore card, though I think it may be possible to receive a check as well (because some things can’t be purchased with the commodore card).
