Hey everybody! I just had a question about how's Freshman Edge? Has anybody taken it before or knows anybody whose taken it? What classes have you guys taken and was there an advantage in taking them? As, did the course rigor was slightly less heavier than during the school year? So,many questions! XD. Give me any advice if you can! :)

I did Transfer Edge two years ago. I entered as a junior, EECS, pretty behind on lower div classes. I took CS61A and CS61BL together over the summer… don’t do that.

The Edge program is basically just for students who want to take summer classes before they enter. You’ll get a bit of a fee cut, and they’ll have a couple programs on campus. I think they also reserve space in housing for incoming students, and you’ll get to live with a bunch of other Edge students, though I didn’t live on campus that summer. I think they also do some day trips, like to SF or an amusement park, but again I kinda tuned out on that part. I was in the program because it made summer session a little less expensive, and I was doing summer either way.

As for academics… summer moves twice as fast. That means you should only be taking half of a normal workload, or less. 8 credits (~2 real classes) is a full load. Don’t take two technical classes together, it won’t be fun, and you’ll want some time to hang out with new friends or explore the area. I’ve heard humanities classes (or the reading/comp requirements) are a little easier over the summer, but I don’t have any personal experience with those.

Do you have any other additional information regarding transfer edge that aren’t already list on the Edge’s website? I plan on doing that this summer with ESPM 50AC (4) and EPS N82 (2) totaling 6 units just to qualify for financial aid. What day of the week are the trips and activities usually held? Bucket list of things to do over summer?
Thanks!
