Are any of you guys planning on doing the Freshman Edge program? I'm not sure if it's worth the time and the money (especially because this is my first relatively stress-free summer!). Opinions?

I’m doing it mainly to get used to the college environment and prepare for a heavy workload come fall. You definitely save money with summer sessions if you make use of this to graduate a few semesters early.

I’m doing freshman edge.
I’m taking Physics and american culture course… I’m not sure how this tuition fee works actually. Do you pay tuition fee and then pay extra per units? It is a lot of money but college is expensive… not much i can do about it. IT would be definately worth the time since you’re getting credits but money… I’m not sure how the whole system works. Classes are filling up really quickly so sign up fast!

if you take only one class, you’ll still have a relatively stress-free summer.

You pay for the courses per unit. So if you are taking a 8 units course load, your unit fees will be $343 x 8 = $2744. You will also need to pay some miscellaneous fees, $34 for class pass (use for free transit) and $133 for campus fee, making a total of of $2911. So basically in the summer, your tuition fees = unit fees.

I’m planning on taking freshman edge!

I was just wondering though, are you guys going to take your classes pass/no pass or letter graded? I figured pass/no pass would be an easier transition since it does not factor into your gpa.

Does anyone know whether the courses/grades for Freshman Edge are factored into the fall GPA?

Is there an official page that clarifies this?

While I haven’t found an exact explicit answer, here are several pages that show by the cumulative weight of their statements that they count.

[| Berkeley Summer Sessions](Freshman Edge | Berkeley Summer Sessions) look at the Courses tab especially at the bottom that tells you courses for your intended major should be taken for a grade, look at the description page where it mentions early start on required courses and again on the fees tab where it lists the same rates as any other UC student taking summer session classes.

See [Freshman Edge FAQs | Berkeley Summer Sessions](http://summer.berkeley.edu/special-programs/freshman-session/FAQ) under Am I a Berkeley Student? - answer was “yes”

can’t find anything more explicit but you are an admitted student, you have registered for your first semester (Summer 2011) and those classes will be on your Cal transcript once the summer ends, but in their own right and not as part of Fall

They are not factored into the Fall GPA. They create a summer GPA and the courses plus the running cumulative GPA is entered into your record as a Cal student (what will become your transcript when you leave/graduate). When you finish Fall courses, you will have two groups of credits - summer 2011 and fall 2011, with a GPA for each semester (summer being a special kind of semester) and a running total that will be your cumulative GPA.

can someone recommend a class to take for freshman edge session D?
i have no idea…im an anthropology major and i think i just want to get a required course out of the way
any suggestions?
