for a current junior thinking about Furman, i've heard that the social life is not that great.. im not a huge party girl but i like to have fun, im not into drugs but i dont want to be bored on the weekends cause theres no parties or stuff going on.. so is it true that theres nothing to do here?

also what is the food, dorms, classes (im an above average student top 10% of large school taken lots of aps and done well. so would i be okay here? or would it be too difficult?
my intended major is biology.. but thats subject to change.. but im pretty sure i want to go to med school so also what are the chances of me being accepted to one if i work hard here? ive heard that its very hard so would i be better off going to maybe an easier school and having better stats for med school applications?

also what are the professors like? do they care, are a lot of classes taught by TAs?

I've driven through once and i plan to visit this summer but before i drove down there i wanted to kinda know what to expect
Thanks

You might want to go through this forum and read some posts by Woody, but you can definitely have fun on campus and classes are not that hard if you stay disciplined and work diligently. However, biology is a hard major. All classes are taught by professors (or at least 99% of them are). Dorms for the most part are good, some are better than others. Food is good on some days and not so great on others, but the DH and the Paladen provide a lot of variety. If you have any more specific questions feel free to PM me or just post them below.

As far as partying goes, I would say Furman is pretty weak. It certainly does not compare to a public university, or Sewanee for that matter.

so my brother goes to a small school in nc, and he says that the social life is good, he’s in a frat and he really enjoys it, he seems like theres always at least one thing to do each night on the weekends and its more relaxed and focused on studying during the week, is it like this or does the dry campus make it a lot weaker? are there good places that underclass can go on the weekends to blow off steam?
and yeah I go back in forth between bio and some other stuff, I still have time to decide and stuff, but does anyone know what the drop out rates are too?
thanks

Also, Furman is not a dry campus anymore, but drinking is now allowed in freshmen or sophomore dorms. In saying that, I can promise you freshmen and sophomore’s drink, but if you are caught drinking underage there are of course penalties (a fine and an alcohol class I believe).

Anyway, you should probably visit Furman on a weekend to get an idea of how life is. There are plenty of things to do, and if you join a sorority you’ll have tons of events.
