How's the food and what to do on Picnic days

I got accepted so I’ll be heading to UCD this fall but I wanted to know from you guys if the food is any good and if there are many options :)

I’m going to go to the UCD Picnic day this weekend as well so do you guys have any recommendations on what to do there? Like any don’t miss events?

We were there this past weekend. My daughter liked the food and I felt it was better than some other schools. There was a wide variety, and some good healthy and good not so healthy options.

UCD has probably some of the best food in the UC system. They are into the farm to fork mentality, meaning they will source their food from within a 50 mile radius and use whatever is seasonal. Also in the spring, they have a contest for parents to send in home cooked recipes to be selected and served at the dining commons. I am happy to say, my recipe for Chicken Tortilla soup was one of several picked this year. The winning students also gets a lunch for two at the Gunrock pub. They also have a lot of vegetarian and vegan options.

Regarding picnic day, two of the must sees:

 1. Doxie race (Dachsunds)
 2. Battle of the Bands

Enjoy!!!

Congrats on your acceptance. My son just spent the weekend there and suggests the following:

Play “Sardines” at the Deathstar building : http://www.theaggie.org/2013/11/21/trying-to-understand-doomed-in-the-death-star/

In downtown Davis, check out the restaurant called The Dumpling House - cheap and good food. I recommend the pork kimchi dumpling, pan fried.

Have fun!
