Hi, I am an international student and have been admitted to Miami U -oxford recently, majoring in International Affairs. I am hesitating if I should attend this school as some of my friends get accepted as well. so how is the school's reputation in USA?

If comparing with American U ( washington D.C)majoring in Econs, which one do you suggest?

And can let me know things about the dorms in Miami U ? I am entering as a junior , living on campus , can let me know which dorm is the best?

As a transfer student, I don't know if you can pick a dorm or if you just pick a living-learning community. Honors is quieter but very small (my floor had 18 people), and it's hard to get a room there. I'd probably recommend somewhere on North Quad; there are more people, and a lot of people who live there do roommate lotteries.

My friend goes to American, and she's majoring in political science. I have no idea what you want to do after college, but she likes the internship opportunities there. A few of my friends at Miami are International Studies majors (and all of them have a second major), but I don't know anything about internships or courses through that department. It's hard to compare International Studies with Economics, though.

aussiek517,
thanx a lot ! I am mostly likely to attend Miami this fall. I am thinking to have a second major as well .

I am looking for double room , quiet environment, it will be better if it is near to library...( demand too much?..haha) can you recommend me the dorm and the meal plan ? I have no idea how it is like in the US

See above for comments about the dorm. Bishop, Stoddard/Elliott (depending on if you're a girl or guy), and Wells are the closest dorms to the library, but they're also IMO the most competitive to get into. You would almost definitely not be able to get into Stoddard/Elliott, as they are application-only dorms. As I said, I recommend North quad. They're relatively close to the library, but they aren't nearly as small.

Meal plan-- Diplomat (declining balance). I would not recommend Passport at all.

Passport is much more restrictive. You can only eat between certain times, and if you're in an a la carte dining place, you can only buy a certain amount of food (unless you want to pay out of pocket or with a snack account). It's also a lot harder to shop at markets with Passport, because you can only spend a certain amount of money at a given time with your meal plan. Diplomat gives you a lot more freedom as to when you can eat. I'm a junior, and I don't know anyone who still has Passport.

The advantage of the Passport is that it is cheaper. But it only works if you are someone who always eats breakfast, lunch, and dinner. My D's roommate has Passport. I don't know if she likes it, but she said she chose it because she is a 3 meal per day person. She has to eat all three meals on campus, obviously - no refunds if she goes home for the weekend, or to a restaurant in town.

My D only eats one thing for breakfast, and it is something she keeps in her room. So she would have wasted that meal on the Passport plan. Plus, she can eat anywhere on campus, and can go to her favorite place, or with whichever group of friends she wants, without having to think too hard about it. Whichever plan we bought (not the most expensive, but I can't remember which) is too much for her. She is going to have a bunch of money left over at the end of the year. Next year we will get a smaller one.

BABYBABY-- It actually depends on where your double is. If your room is connected to another room to form kind of a quad, then the four of you would share a bathroom. This is common in North Quad. If your room is an unconnected double, then you would be in a corridor bathroom, which you might share with 20-50 people, depending on how large the dorm is. (Obviously, the bathroom sizes vary depending on how many people are in the corridor.)

I have confirmed to go MIAMI, and I am deciding which dorm to live in. I am a girl , 3rd year student, and which building in North Quad is better?
