Hoya Saxa, Hopeful Hoyas of 09

Doing Regular Decision, but good luck to all of you early applicants. Hope you get in Tlaktan.

:(

my mom is threatening to not pay for my tuition if I don't immediately retract my gtown EA app and apply to Harvard EA instead...and i only have three days...and i don't want to apply to harvard....

i'm so upset

I just had my interview - and it went really well! Turns out my interviewer lives next door to my brother's best friend, had worked with my aunt, and gone to Bible study with my mom. Small world, huh?

babybird87 - Maybe you should have a meeting with your counselor and your mom. You shouldn't have to apply or go anywhere you don't want to, otherwise you'll be miserable for 4 years.

Tell her that 1) Georgetown is your number one choice and 2) you have a much better chance there EA. Since you will be going there and having to live with your decision for the rest of your life, it should be your choice! If this fails, tell her its too late to apply to HArvard EA! I'm sure that she wouldn't not pay for your tuition!

i told her my feelings, that I don't even like harvard...but she's so Ivy league centered she's awful

i got my counselor to tell her it was too late and impossible to switch

back on track for HOYAS 09! yay!

are you the person where your mom said you wouldn't get in unless you put a particular word?

Hey my interviewer said, "You have a 50-50 shot". I am still wondering how to take that. Since most people have a 20-80 shot, I guess its good...I guess...

My interviewer said this to me:

"You have really great stats. But everyone has really great stats. So I can never tell anymore..some of the people I thought were the best I've ever interviewed didn't even get in."

netshark-- yes, that was my mom...i guess you can see sort of how she is, lol

that's scary about your interviewers! scary that they would say that!

yeah manderz thats almost exactly what he said to me. He praised me, but at same time warned how competitive it was etc... So it was comforting, but unsettling at the same time. Never thought that could happen eh?
baby bird, where in NY, up or down?

long island

babybird, it's not scary at all. It's just the interviewer being realistic...We had a great time and talked for a long time about a lot of stuff. I don't think it's a reflection of the interview (considering he said it to me when I called for an appointment and then again when I first started my interview)...

Only time will tell. I just let go of my app yesterday and am already going crazy!

hey babybird, I don't want to intrude, but you have to make absolutely clear to your mom that this is your life, your future. Even if she's footing the bill, the rest of your life will be affected by this decision, at least in some way. Maybe she missed out on the Ivys and wants them for you, but she needs to know that the choice must be yours. She should support you, so tell her that.

no i completely agree

but my mom's a little crazy...especially over Ivies

She actually told me Georgetown was a bad school and no one would ever care if I went there, and that I wouldn't be anything if I didn't go to Harvard

and that I didn't know what was a good college for me, because I'm 17

very silly

Your situation is the opposite of what normally happens. Usually, a student is so stubborn that Ivies are the only good schools, and his/her parents have to explain to him/her that Ivies are not the only schools. But in your situation, your mother is like the student, and you're the parent! If you get into Georgetown though, are you going to enrol (is it your absolute first choice)?

yeah, you're right, that's pretty amusing

I don't know!! Gtown was my absolute first choice and then I went and saw Dartmouth and I fell completely in love...but I'm also in love with Gtown! If I get accepted into both (wow, that'd be great) I'd have a serious problem on my hands

This morning, I finally mailed my application to Georgetown! :D

I already said this in another post, but I just wanted to make sure that everyone knew. Hehe...

Countdown: 48 days...

PS- I'll start an "Offficial EA Countdown Thread" now.

This morning, after frantically revising one last essay, I finally mailed my application to Georgetown! Express Mail! Costing me 15 bucks!

crap! i forgot about my sophomore literature SAT II and now I have to rush it to Gtown! it's sooo expensive!

Umm... Don't they not accept rush score reports? I think I read that somewhere. Anyone else know something about this?
