Quick question. Are you all double or single spacing your essays? If I double space, a one page essay is about 350 words, whereas single spacing puts me at around 730. Ironically, those two numbers are the lengths of my two essays...(the average at least is around 500)

DEFINITELY single spacing it..My global conflict as it stands is about, ummm...959 words? Yes! So..Don't know what I'm going to do there.

My short answer for "What is the summer/school activity..." is really long too..but I'm working on it.

My personal essay is shorter, I believe.

Whew, 959? What's your topic?

I think I'm also single-spacing. I actually found an archived thread on CC today about single-spacing vs. double-spacing in regard to Georgetown essays and short answers. They were split over what to do--but I think single-spacing is fine. Besides, you're not going to be penalized for the formatting of your essays, and I think single-spacing will make your essay look shorter and more manageable.

ha, i compromised-- 1.5 spacing!!

what photos did you guys use? I used one of me in Italy feeding pigeons...it's sorta cute

I am single-spacing mine.

I cut down my SFS essay to about 600-700 words, but the personal statement (all applicants) is about 1400 words long. I'm going to rewrite that one though.

Same thing for my fave EC.. that one is a bit hard to tackle..

I think I'm going to do 1.5 spacing too. My personal essay is about 800 words right now, down from about 1200. I cannot WAIT to send this thing in... It will feel so good to have it out of my hands!

Still haven't done the EC essay though, and I'm in the middle of the SFS essay. Arghhhhhhh!

tlaktan: the EC thing is stumping me too. My thing was 700 words and I've cut it down to like 500 and something now. I don't know how much smaller I can get it!!!!!!

lauren, I agree, I just want to get it out of my hands, too! But at the same time, when I send it in I just KNOW I'm going to have one of those "Woulda, shoulda, coulda" attacks.

I agree--I'm about ready to be finished with this thing (and in a couple of days I will be).

As far as the optional photo goes, I'm going to use either my senior-year formal picture or ROTC-uniform picture.

I'm just thinking that with so many applications, double spacing is going to be much easier on the adcoms' eyes. With double space, my personal statement is about 1 and 3/4 pages, but I still think it can only help. Hopefully they'll see my compassionate approach.

When I applied, it 1.5 spaced it. I think that's best. On one hand it takes less space than double spacing, but also doesn't make the text too crowded and much easier to read.

Lol... I used my prom picture with my date cut out (I thought another person in the picture would be unnecessary). They must have liked my creativeness.

Mailed! Yes, it is official, the Georgetown app is in the hands of the US postal service! Whew, what a relief to get that thing out of our house. Georgetown is my daughter's first choice school, so she put a lot of work into it. Now the anxious waiting begins!

to answer questions from above:
She used her senior picture
SFS essay was cut from 900+ to 626, one page single spaced
Essay one was about 500 words, one page with 1.5 spacing
Short answer was 417 words, cut and pasted onto the app to fit the box, single spaced

wow, and I thought I went way over with my essay...I cut it from 900 words to 750 and I was worrying about it

my other essay is 450
short answer about 250

For the summer activity question, are we supposed to write in our responses, or attach a separate typed sheet?

I finally finished my application too! Handed it all in to my counselor (EA SFS) . . . now I just have to schedule my interview. It's weird - my interviewer lives like 2 blocks away from me, but I have no idea who she is. Anyways, good luck to everyone else!

Hey, I'm new to the forums but, as you can tell, Georgetown is my first choice.

I just mailed in my EA application yesterday (COL - Gov. Major), and it is finally out of my hands and in the hands of the people in DC.

I had my interview about two weeks ago. It was very casual and pretty much just a casual conversation. I think it went well over all. The interviewer was a gov. major also, so we had a common interest to talk about.

Good luck to everyone else here.

Finished two essays... still have to do the EC one and the rest of the application... :)

YAY!!!! It's sent!!!! I'm so relieved- I feel like this huge burden has finally been lifted off my shoulders. I worked my *ss off all weekend, completed the essays last night at midnight and met with my counselor today to put it all together. I also did overnight mail, just to be safe. Honestly I'm so happy it's done that I couldn't care less about the decision in December (at least for now, lol!)

My only concern is that I may have sent too much. I included a simple 2 page resume because there was not a lot of room to talk about outside activities, two extra recommendations (both written by people who know me better than my own parents!) and my essays were all kind of on the longish side. Will this work against me or will they just not read as carefully? I really couldn't trim them down (they weren't crazy long or anything, just slightly so.)

Well good luck to everyone trying to finish up. Now the countdown begins (and of course all my RD applications but I'm not even thinking about those for a week!)

Lauren

Yeah mine were about 600 words each, single spaced.
And I used one of my senior wallet pictures.

Midyear report has been sent by the office today. That completes all the school-side parts that need to be submitted.
