I can get a free xbox, sell the xbox, and basically be getting both laptops for the same price.

Which would you choose, and why?

I can get a free xbox, sell the xbox, and basically be getting both laptops for the same price.

Which would you choose, and why?

technically you have to buy the xbox and then do some refund thing. if its hp vs toshiba, go with the hp. the specs and design/portability is better but toshiba has longer battery. if you gonna buy extra long buttery, the laptop will have this weird bulge battery and its really awkward. a lot of people who buy hp say it has quality issues. if you can spend an extra $100, you can get a macbook pro 13" from microcenter for $999. it has extremely long battery life (i have been using it for 3 hours and it still has 4 hours left), very portable, and the built quality is great. the specs are good too. basically, the macbook pro would be a combination of both laptops.

HP Envy 14 Beats has decent reviews, but one of the biggest problems is that it heats up way too easily. In general, HP has a higher failure rate and lower reliability than other brands.
Toshiba and Asus are known to be very reliable laptop brands, and the Toshiba Portege is definitely a very solid line of laptops. Which Portege are you looking at, though?

the r835-p70 from best buy

the r835-p70 has only the integrated graphics, not good for $729.00

Graphics are handled by an nVIDIA/Intel hybrid system. The computer uses a dedicated nVIDIA GeForce 310M GPU with 1GB of memory when performance is required. It switches to an integrated Intel GMA HD GPU during normal operation, helping to extend battery life. The computer supports Intel’s Wireless Display technology, which allows you to connect to an HDTV wirelessly. You’ll need the optional Netgear Push2TV accessory to utilize this technology. For wired connectivity to an HDTV, the notebook features an HDMI output. The computer is powered by a 4GB of RAM, a 640GB 5400rpm hard drive, Bluetooth, 802.11n Wi-Fi, and an integrated webcam. Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)

If that Asus had 2nd gen processor, I’d jump on it. Unfortunately, the one they are coming out with soon, probably won’t be out by the time I buy a laptop.

Toshiba portege = portability

HP Envy = all around good

If you plan not to play any games just get the portege. It’s $730 at BB plus a free xbox which you can sell. If you want a little graphical oommph then go for the Envy.

Btw, that Nvidia 310m on that Asus is a little worse than the new 2nd gen intel 3000 GPU on the portege. So the portege is still good.

Don’t think BB is giving out a free Xbox with a PC purchase of $699+ anymore.

I can get the R835-P55X version from Microsoft for $800 with a free xbox or the P70 from Best Buy for $730.

I would definitely check out HP, they have some great deals if you try out this link and go to University of Illinois link. And they have the HP Collegiate which has some pretty good specs and a 3 year warranty.
