HPME Application

Hey CC,

I just received my application for the Northwestern HPME.
I'm in debate right now as to whether I should apply to HPME; skimming through the application instructions, I realize that there are so many additional things I have to submit (the three essays, English teacher rec, etc.) in what little time I have (NU is obviously not the only uni I'm applying to). Also it seems NU isn't very generous in terms of financial aid.

Anyway, I read several forums and it seems the UG and HPME applications are separate.
What does this mean, exactly?
Does it mean that the Common Application will not be reviewed by the HPME admissions office, vice versa?
In that case is it possible to use the same essay for my Common App and my HPME app?
(I know, it sounds bad, but I really don't have time to write up a new one.)

Help will be much appreciated!

Yes, they are separate in the sense that they don’t compare notes and act independently of each other. You can get invited to the HMPE interview or even get accepted there but still get rejected by NU undergrad admission.

Thank you. Just to clarify - does that mean that I can use the same essays (slightly modified) since information is not shared between the two?

…I am such an idiot. I forgot to fill out the HPME request form, so I can’t apply. The only comfort is in telling myself that I didn’t have a chance anyway. Did anyone else do this, or am I the only one dumb enough to forget?

I almost forgot, but HPME isn’t really my top choice (cost too much). I sent my request on the last day (12/1) and still got the form. I am not expecting much though but still have to apply to find out for sure.
