Essays:
One was about my summer trip three years ago to my homeland for a family reunion. This one is a huge metaphorical essay about how my family reunion trip is like a hot pot (google it) and how each ingredient makes me who I am, just like how the family reunion picture makes the family reunion perfect.

The second one was experiencing stereotypes, and living through them my entire life. Tied it into emotional feelings, and how I got through it. Although the essay may sound emotional, I ended it on a positive note with the lessons I learned on why people stereotype and how they don’t necessarily mean it.

@oldknave I’ve always thought the UW average SAT was competitive (based on past Decision threads where most who got in seem to have high scores), I guess mines not that bad O_o.
Glad so many are getting accepted this year though!

[ /list][ b]General Comments:[ /b]
Que sera, sera- what will be, will be. Best of luck. Everything happens for a reason. You’ll make it to the school that’s somehow just right for you. For me at least, I’m turning down Yale because something about that school didn’t feel spot on. I was pleased when I got their letter, but absolutely ecstatic when the postman handed my UW’s letter today. Each school can be the right one for different people. Be intrepid, genuinely inquisitive, and above all, tenacious. Things will work out!!

Everyone around me has their letters. Seriously. Everyone. Only one guy got rejected so far. I haven’t gotten mine yet. Maybe a blessing in disguise, because they might be taking longer to review my application and reach a decision?

I’ve got a 2120 SAT, 31 ACT, 4 AP’s and 13 honors classes, about 200 hours of volunteering at the UW medical center, a year’s worth of work experience, Track, and a 9-year art portfolio that’s probably my biggest pride and joy. Everyone said my essays were great and at the very least, unique. That’s all okay, but my unweighted GPA is a 3.2. I got hit hard by the death of my grandfather (GPA never dropped below a 3.0, but still) but it was also a good thing because it galvanized me into action and I was inspired to start volunteering and do all this other stuff too. I had that in the extracurricular journal and “Additional Info” section.

I’m just really worried. If I had all this stuff and had even a 3.4 or a 3.5 GPA, I’d be accepted by now, based off of all the people who got accepted yesterday. But instead I’ve been shaking with anticipation and nervousness for like 24 hours straight. And my mom turned straight-up verbally abusive when she found out everyone else already has letters - “so why don’t you have one yet? Huh?” If I get rejected there’s gonna be hell to pay.

The UW NetID unofficial transcript doesn’t load either. At least, it didn’t 12 hours ago and I’m afraid to check now. Bad sign?

@metalninjacake
calm down, and don’t let your mom get to you!

colleges don’t look at people, they look at resumes. keep calm and have a cupcake. you’ll find somewhere you belong soon.

wow! I went to sbang94 Youtube because of the link… very impressed! I was kindof curious as to how/ why one would offer up videos on an college app, but now I get it! that was easily one of the cooler things I’ve seen on Youtube for a while. I might actually go to the football games if the pep band will be doing interesting stuff like that!

[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Key Club, Art Club, Model UN, 9th grade track (third year, starting in 7th grade), independent Japanese study, and weekend art class from which I’d compiled a huge near-professional art portfolio spanning a decade

[] Volunteer/Community service: 150+ hours at the UW medical center
[] Summer Activities: Traveling, working up to 35 hours, volunteering when I could
[] Essays: Everyone said they were great. I was born in Russia, raised in Japan, and moved here - I milked that for “diversity” as hard as I could. Did the one about family history and traced everywhere we’d been over the last 18 years, following the growth of my dad’s business, and writing about how that inspired me to do what I’ve done. Second essay was a shorter anecdote about an experience in Japan where initially I experienced some xenophobia and culture-clashing, but then everything turned out better as we shared the gift of language and whatnot.
