HS Junior Chances at VA schools?

Hi everyone I am Natalie and am currently a Junior in high school. I've always earned pretty good grades in school so I thought I'd have no trouble getting into a good school! I've now come to the realization that it is not going to be as easy as I thought. My family doesn't really have a lot of money for college so I have to choose in-state. I really would love to go to UVA but I'm not sure I'll get accepted! So far what do you think are my chances? Anything I can do to improve them? Any other schools in VA that are a better match?

I really want to get into the best school that I can. So far how does everything look? Is there anything else I can do, tips are needed!! Thanks in advance everyone! And I swear some people on here are unbelievable!

also if this helps:

I'm a first generation college student in my family. Also I'm doing an internship this summer at a bank? And my school doesn't offer AP untill 11th grade.

Aside from your PSAT scores and extracurriculars, your stats seem to match up with what UVa is looking for--top 10%, good gpa in rigorous courses, and first generation. Also, you're in-state. Study hard for the SATs this summer and try to get a 1300 combined score for math/verbal. To make up for ECs, I'm going to have to suggest that you write some great essays. I think you have a good shot at UVa, it's not too late for you to strengthen your application.

Also, you may want to look into College of William and Mary as an alternative. Maybe Vtech for a safety. Good luck!

Hey just a quick question are you from NOVA? Because if you are it will make your chances that much harder to get into UVA. I think UVA will be a stretch school, VT could be a good bet that you would get in , and have you looked at JMU yet? Its a pretty good school and should be a safety school for you.

Hey Seoul thanks for replying! I'm taking the SAT in March so that if I do poorly I have lots of time to retake it. Thanks a lot, I don't feel so bad now, maybe with some awesome essays I still have a chance!

Homeruncarl- Thanks for replying! I live in the middle peninsula. I live about 30 minutes from Williamsburg where the college of william and mary is. Would my location make UVA a stretch or a good match?

theoneonlynat, I just wanted to comment b/c my son is a freshman at JMU. You are very fortunate to have such wonderful public colleges in VA! We are from OOS and my son chose JMU. He is so happy there!

Good match but still its not a gaurntee but you have a good chance also because your first gen and i missed that first time. The reason why i asked if you lived in N. Virginia is because I have many friends who get rejected from UVA all the time and they are great students and its because they can only take so many students from each individual region but you should be fine.

wow I never knew that! I know quite a few people that are applying to UVA...hopefully that won't ruin my chances, but thanks for the feedback!

just bumping...
