So this is definitely my first choice if I'd get in and it would mean a lot if any of you could help since I'm worried about my chance of admission.

SAT = 1870 - Reading 550, Math 670 (only took it once, will retake it in October with a lot of studying, aiming for 2000)

Weighted GPA = 3.93

Unweighted GPA = 3.22 (yea, I know...)

Rigor = 6 APs so far, taking 3 more next year. plenty of honors classes too. AP courses are: physics, english lang, world history, calculus AB, government, chemistry. next year I'll take programming, BC calculus, and something undecided for my third AP.

Extracurricular = this is by far my worst one, I have nothing official besides my 82 SSL hours that I got by some volunteer work in this elementary school. I play an instrument and spent (and still do) a lot of time taking care of my little brother who was born in my freshman year. no sports, so that's pretty much it unfortunately..

I speak and write in another language fluently, and my parents didn't go to college in the U.S. so I don't know if that makes a difference (first generation US college student). I only have a green card, not citizenship, but I live in MD.

I think that's it. Be blunt if you need to be, and thank you so much in advance.

Verbatim I don’t think you would be accepted. The 25% of SAT scores of the admitted students this year was a 1260. It is a safe bet it will be even higher next year as it seems to go up 10 every year.

Improve your SAT’s, improve your chances. They will forgive your grades if you improve your SAT’s.

1260-1410 was this years 25-75% so if I were you I would shoot for the 1300s in order to feel pretty good about my chances.

You can do it! Good luck!

@TerpGuy Thank you for the honest answer and the advice. If anyone else can add to that it’d be hugely helpful too…

Bump.
PLEASE help I’m just staying up here reading all those chance threads trying to see if I fit any of them. I plan to improve my SAT scores, if that makes any difference.

What else is there to say? Instead of repeatedly asking people on CC what they think (which means nothing since they don’t work in admissions) study a SAT test book. Time better spent. Good luck to you.

Greivis is right. The fact that you are posting such a detailed chance thread means that you are already aware of your strengths and weaknesses. Basically the only thing people can tell you at this point is to try to improve on your weaknesses, build up on your strengths, and hope for the best. It is good to be aware of college stats and realistic about where you stand, but anymore than that is a waste of time.

don’t rely on your SAT to make it in. you only have so much control over it. instead, improve your grades and get involved! they seemed to like my musical extracurricular activities. show them that you work hard!!!

Others have already addressed SAT scores. Super important at MD, so do work on that.

Don’t underestimate the value of your EC’s. You play an instrument. Fantastic! Do you perform at all? School orchestra, church, anything? If not, could you find a group to participate in over the next several months? Musicianship takes dedication, diligence, and lots of other qualities admissions committees like.

Schools know that sometimes kids have to take on family responsibilities, this speaks well of you and your character. When you apply try to bring it up, perhaps in an essay.

Fluency in another language - great! How do you use it? Communicating with family, or friends? Do any teaching or mentoring? Could you?

Try to go into more depth in whatever you have already established. Don’t try to rack up EC’s, just add depth to one of your activities. Yes, with an eye to admissions, but also to develop yourself. Try to relate what you’ve done to what you want to do, if there is indeed a relationship. Build a coherent picture of you and your strengths.

Best of luck!

Thank you LizzieT and the rest, this was really helpful advice and I’ll be sure to keep it in mind. Better get off of CC now…
