HS Senior Updates

A few questions regarding these so-called “update” forms

When are they usually requested? (Like, mid-Feb?)

Do they just ask for grades?

Is it likely that, assuming you get one of these forms (from Berk or LA), you will get the other as well?

Thanks

If you are referring to supplemental information requests (augmented reviews):

An email will be sent to you telling you that additional information is being requested, with a link for your responses. The request is made (at least for Berkeley) between mid-January to early February, usually with a very short time period in which you need to provide the additional information requested.

No, they ask specific questions to which you need to respond in addition to grades. It may be you get a question regarding your "special talent" or ECs on which you need to expand. It may be regarding a hardship or disability you discussed in one of your essays. They may ask for documentation supporting the response (i.e. for disabilities, medical reports, last IEP, etc.). They often also allow (optional) teacher/principal recommendations (or someone of authority who has knowledge of your achievement/talent/work).

If you mean if you get one from Cal, will you get one from UCLA as well, the answer is MAYBE. Cal has done this for a longer period of time, so they are more refined. UCLA has only recently started the augmented review in comparison. I understand that UCSD is also now possibly requesting additional information.

The request is optional, but from what I've seen on CC and my son's own experience, to NOT respond is to throw away a potential opportunity to get into that "dream" school.

^well, mediocre senior grades could be a reason not to respond, couldn't it?

...Honestly, I'm fussing because my grades are not up to their normal standards

...at the same time, I doubt that I will get this form because I am proven academically (3.97 UW, 4.3ish UC) and elaborated on everything to the fullest on my app

any other thoughts?

Don't sweat it. It will be what it will be. If you get it, use it as an opportunity to explain why you screwed up first semester senior year.

Unless your SAT or ACT conflicts with your GPA, I don't think you'll get it.

jk lolz 10char

I just looked at the myberkeelyapp site and I realized I have to send in supplemental info (including a recommendation) but I didn't get ANY emails or notifications and now I'm not sure when it's due!

I am in the same boat.

Found forms Saturday afternoon on MyBerkeleyApplication but have not received an email yet.

I have read that one has a 10 calendar day deadline and the other a 10 business day deadline, but no clue when the 'start date' occurs/occured.

where did you see the forms? if they aren't listed, we dont have to send any grade rpts., etc., right?

thnx ;)

correct

On the page that tells you that they are reviewing with decisions on 3/27 you will find a very obvious message telling you that u can submit these optional items and that it can only help your case. Some get a form asking about a disability, some for a special talent and some to ask Qs on topics such as why you might not have taken every AP offered at your school. Many times they also ask for a teacher recommendation.

ahh, ok, thanks!

Whaa?
Wait, if we didn't get one of those update requests, is it bad?
:/

why would it be bad? Either it means they won't accept you even with updated grades, or, more likely, you already put in a good app so there is no explaining left to do.
