Hi, I'm a HS Sophomore. I have a 3.8148 GPA and a 4.1451 HPA and my rank is 0005/0134. I'm wondering whether I meet the prerequisites so that I can take the classes with asteriks next to it. (We only have 1 guidance counselor at school, and when you make an appointment with her, it takes a while... I'd rather just ask you guys :)) Thanks!!

Yeah, it sounds like you'll be well-prepared for those classes and should go ahead and take them; especially because next year will be your Junior year.

The only thing that nobody here can tell you is the difficulty of each of those classes within your school, as well as how effective the teacher is (often times, as I'm sure you've found in your other classes, a good teacher will make a "difficult" class much easier). It might be a good idea to talk to some people who are currently enrolled in those classes and ask them what they think of the teacher, etc...

One caveat: make sure your AP teachers have a decent record of preparing their students. I have found that some teachers depart radically from the AP standards and it is sometimes up to the kids to prep themselves. Ask around about the passing rates in the classes you want to take. If in doubt get an AP prep text and see how much your classwork aligns with it.

I'd recommend against 6 AP's junior year if you are in a public HS; for highly selective colleges, you need great ECs this year, so don't spend all your time in books. AP Stats can be a lot of work ( and fun), but it not considered as rigorous as the other AP's by adcoms, so that one I'd consider not taking. You might strategize, as well, by holding AP Govt to Senior year, when many kids take it. Instead, consider AP US History -- it will prepare you well for the SATII next spring. Also, you could take AP English until Senior year, and seek an honors level English class, such as honors Euro Lit. And, as SBmom notes, make sure that the teachers in those classes have an excellent track record in preparing students for the test. (Our HS had one easy AP teacher -- easy A -- with little hw, and, thus, not great AP scores. But, slacker seniors loved it for the grade boost.

Next year will be the first year my school offeres AP Classes, and these are the only six they will offer. In addition to those 6 classes, I will also be finishing off my pe requirement (Team Sports I), and my economics requirement (Economics Honors), as well as taking First Responder (I'm in the Medical Academy at my school... its an honors class). Is that what you meant regarding EC (that means electives, rigIht??)

If EC means extracurricular, I volunteer after school for math tutorial, stay after school twice a week for the drama club (i'm the secretary), and am involved at Church (is that necessarily extracurricular? like youth groups??)
