HS Transcripts- Is this the Norm?

Thanks all-
from the responses it appears most transcript only list HS info. Hovermom I'll be checking with the school tomorrow to see if this is the case, as I had the same thought as well.

Taxicab- what state are you in? I do see some similarities

My transcripts listed class, level (Honors/AP), and grade--nothing from middle school unless it was dual credit. I think ACT/SAT were listed along the state tests, but the PSAT wasn't.

Our first look at an official transcript was also a shock. Many HS's in Florida use a computer program that contains EVERYTHING, and yes ALL 8 PAGES is exactly what gets sent out as the official transcript. Many Florida state U's have electronic access to this info as well. Ours has all the innumization info as well. Any official grade, test score, shot, etc is on there.

So much for deciding which scores you want to go where.

If you want to be selective about what scores go where DO NOT have your kiddo put their HS code on the SAT or ACT or AP exam registration or exam forms. But then this will be problematic for certain scholarships or awards that are local or regional and depend on the info coming from the school. Or may be problematic if the only scores showing are FCAT scores or 7th grade SAT scores.

I think there are privacy issues here. But through a real fluke, my D had this 8 page dossier work in her favor in the strangest way this year. So we never made an issue about it.

But yes, all those pages go to every school who you request get a transcript. And I am glad we reviewed ours Junior year. Through some sort of glitch, all of her freshman courses were Honors, but none were listed as such on her transcript. We got that straightened out quickly. Changed her weighted GPA, and was important for FACTS/Bright Futures as well.

Everyone needs to see their kids transcripts and look for errors.

Thanks Sunnyflorida. immunization info...ditto, shots ditto..

Can you elaborate on how the 8 page dossier worked in your d's favor?

I just triple checked and all his freshman classes were also honors, except for an elective, and its flagged with the "v" for honors and listed correctly.

I agree, its an eyeopener to see the transcript. It seemed pretty weird why a sophomore would have such a bulky transcript. :-)

Now can ya feel me..... when all Florida HS Students transcript gets reviewed by Adcom and they have to go through 8 pages to find the information they need. arggggghhhhhhh

Yes, this is a catch 22 for Florida students where we definitely have a "Big Brother" computer system in use. You can opt not to fill in your high school code to ACT or CB, but then you are not eligible for Bright Futures. You can also keep your "hidden" ACT/SAT and AP scores secret from colleges, but then you are not eligible to apply to them.
No secrets with College Board or ACT Beach Blurb
The transcript thing is just now beginning to spread across the state. I can't believe there's not more of an uproar about all this.

I am also from Florida. Seems silly sending all those pages, especially when they received them already with the application. Do the rest of you from Florida have to send them youselves or does the school send them? My daughter has also applied for some scholarships and when they request transcripts the school supplies us with the same history since she started school (and charge $2 for each transcript). Maybe that's why none of the scholarships have responded, LOL.

Update from school: School advised they do NOT have "High School Transcript". Instead they have what is called "Student Academic Transcript" which reflects the student's academic history from KG- 12th Grade, and this is the transcript that gets sent to Universities.

I have to admit that I was shocked by the first transcript I got from a public school in Florida (way back when...not I just highlight to help myself and the next reader find what we need). The amount of paper wasted on those things is disturbing. Format wise, they are printed with so little white space and with so many codes that it's tedious to get through them.

The only folders thicker than Florida applicants' folders are those from international students.

Ours is concise: has grades, GPA, notes about it being a non-weighted GPA and a spot to note "with honors, highest honors, etc.". Also has a spot for school activities where sports or club participation is listed. Son's showed that he participated in Girls Basketball, which we thought was funny, but incorrect.

It gets mailed out with a separate school profile that gives an overview of the school, has results for IB scores, courses offered, requirements for graduation etc.

This makes me nervous, the possibility of so many errors in 8 pages of florida transcripts. I will definitely make sure that I get a copy before anything is sent out so that I can double check.

zebes

Our HS routinely includes all ACT, SAT, and SAT II scores on the transcript, but you can ask them to remove them if you only want your colleges to receive the official scores you send them. Our HS includes all passing AP scores on the transcript too.
