HSSP vs. LSA Honors Program

I was recently accepted into the LSA Honors Program and was planning on pursuing it, but I attended a Campus Day last week and learned a little bit more about the Health Science Scholars Program. Considering the fact that I really want to go to med school, it seems like the HSSP would give me some really, really great opportunities. At the same time though, there seem to be some major perks to the Honors Program and the people involved in it seem to be good too. I don't think that you can enroll in both, and I'm having a hard time choosing. I have to apply for housing soon, so is there anyone who could provide me with some insight into either of these programs or give me their opinion on which would be better for me? Thanks in advance.

You should be able to enroll in both but if you are in the HSSP you wouldn’t be living in honors housing. I don’t know much about HSSP. There is a class you take that is related to health sciences and you live with a group of students with a similar interest. There are plenty of pre-meds in honors.

Yeah- I did a little more research and it turns out you can enroll in both, but it seems like that would be a ton of work. Anyone else have an opinion?

D is in LSA honors. She lives in and loves South Quad. She endured great books, but because of Honors she took a 300-level history class second semester, which she really enjoyed. D’s experience is that LSA honors is good but not great, but she would absolutely do it again. The advantage to LSA honors is that it is not major dependant. It is my understanding that lots of students plan on majoring in pre-med right up to the Organic chem midterm and then switch. I don’t know anything about HSSP but if you can join it later, I would recommend joining LSA honors your first year (that way you can live in South Quad) and then if you are still going to stay with pre-med switch from LSA honors to HSSP (I’m assuming you can join HSSP second year, but to be honest, I have no idea if that is true).
