HUGE dilemma over sending SAT scores or ACT scores ;_;!

Ok, I applied to Brown this past december and they just sent me a letter reminding me I needed to send in 2 sat subject tests and sat/ OR the act. So, I’ve taken ALL of these. But, i’m currently having a humongous butt dilemma over this.

Here is why:

On the SAT, the highest score i’ve gotten so far is a 1680. I retook on jan. 27th and I think I got at LEAST a 1950+, it was by far the easiest one I’ve ever taken, I’m hoping that maybe it’ll reach into the 2000 mark. Problem? Didn’t do so hot on my subject tests. I got a 510/510/540, with a huge amount of studying, so I’m not exactly sure what the heck went wrong there. No matter how well I do on this round of SAT’s, the subject tests will reflect badly on my part, will they not? (ehehehe)

Other issue is whether I should disregard the SAT scores as a whole and just send my ACT score of 25. It’s not exactly that good, but I retook and did worse, SO…What is the better option? Amazing sat scores/bad subject scores or yucky act scores? Confused, worried, and hoping to be admitted nonetheless lol. Thanks !!

i'd do act because you choose which report to send so if you indeed did worse, you can just go with the better one. you don't know for sure yet if you got 1950+ on the latest sat so you'd risk sending all those scores hoping to get lucky, which you very well may. yeaaaaaah i'd say act.

but i know people will disagree so it's really up to you.

If I were you, I'd send ACT scores. I met with an admissions rep last fall who told me to send my ACT instead...My SAT was only 2120, and my subject tests were 770, 720, and 620. Besides, the 1680 will also show on your SAT report, so it would be safer to send just the ACT. Also, did you take the writing portion of the ACTs, because it's required of freshman applicants who submit it.

^What did you get on your ACT, if you don't mind me asking? Was it that much better than your SAT?

At the time, I had a 33. I believe that that was probably better than my SATs, but when you are using your SATs, you're competing with a bunch of people who have almost perfect scores on the Subject Tests.
What subject tests did you take, and what did you list as your major on the application? And, have you taken any APs?

I mean...would you think they'd ever admit a score of 25? Even that score over maybe a 1950+? I'm so BLAH lol.

They might... it all depends on the other factors.

Please shut up if you know that your post will hurt other people's feeling. You never know what will happen and the standardizd test scores should not stop a student from applying to dream schools.

^Who said something that could hurt someone's feelings? No one said that the person couldn't get it; everyone says that it also depends on other factors. If your referring to Jeremybeach's post, he was talking about himself because he is the OP.

Brown is fairly well known for considering the whole person. They will look at your other qualities to see what you can contibute to the Brown community. Personally, if I were the OP, I would send in the ACT score.

As being the OP (lol I feel like I was appointed this position!!), I think I will send in my 25 act...although I'm still reluctant IF I do really well on the SAT. I'm so confused, I just don't know what to do lol.

I don't know if this helps, but it'll show you the average SAT and ACT scores...

Good luck!

N2Karaoke1, thank you, that actually does give me a somewhat better idea of what I should do :D

WOOHOO! SAT results are in. I didn't do amazing, but I am definitely content with how I did. Here is how it is now:

Reading:
last time: 520 this time: 570
Math:
last time: 550 this time: 600
Writing:
last time: 610 this time: 690

Last time: 1680 This time: 1860

SOO...It's equivalent to an ACT score of 28...should i send these sat results or the 25 act? BAH

Send in your ACT scores. Brown wants to see its SAT averages increase, but there is no similar internal pressure to have higher ACT averages. (While your scores did improve, remember that Brown doesn't look at the writing score, so the more important number is 1170/1600, and your ACT is almost equivalent to that.)

Congrats on getting your SAT scores up! I would still send ACT scores if I were you. Although your SAT went up, your Subject Tests may hurt you. Or, you could always send both!

I’m aware that this isn’t productive, but I don’t care.

lol, ***

I’m sorry if this “hurts your feelings” buddy… but standardized test scores are around for a reason. They give the admissions office a ballpark idea of where candidates are academically in relation to all other applicants because the tests are standardized.
Your scores are really bad… putting you perhaps in the lowest percentile.

That said I know people with really bad scores who got into Brown. But they are 1. a recruited athlete and 2. an international equestrian games competitor.
So unless you are in that category or are a URM don’t fool yourself, it will only hurt worse later.

That said, to answer your original question: if you still think you have a good chance for whatever reason I may not know about I would say send in your SAT scores.

This thread is almost 3 years old! Ignore it!
