Huge dilemma! Please advise.

Hi all,
I am a sophomore at NYU majoring in history and politics. My current GPA is 3.62 with solid EC's, an internship at a prestigious company in the political field, and a varsity sport. I don't think I'd have trouble obtaining 2 rec's from professors and one from my head boss. I also run a fairly successful business on the side. I want to transfer out of NYU because I do not like either department in my majors. My high school GPA was sub-par at best (3.5) and my ACT was a 29 with a 10 on the writing. I am thinking of applying to UVA, Cornell, UPenn, and Johns Hopkins. Would someone chance me, please?!

oh and I’m half Spanish, male, and would be applying from out of state to UVA.

I’d say you have good chances at UVA and Cornell. UPenn would be a little more difficult to call, it would depend entirely on the applicant pool.

gpa is low for cornell and penn, but it mostly depends on your essays. might be too low for JHU, too. i think uva would be your best shot, but it doesn’t hurt to apply to all of them. make your essays really strong to be as competitive as possible.

Are you interested in continuing your varsity sport? If so, you might want to read NCAA regulations and find out if there is a process for transfer student athletes.

Also, if you 100% certain you want to leave your school you will need safeties.
