I thought the books like god a biography were optional?

They sent us an e-mail about it:

“Prof. Jack Miles will be lecturing in fall quarter and it is recommended
that students read during the summer the first four chapters of his book,
God: A Biography. This book is available from various online booksellers,
and the UCI Bookstore will be stocking a limited number of copies as well.
This is not a required reading for the course.”

Also:

“Students should complete the first assigned reading on the syllabus,
**Epictetus’ Handbook/b, available at the UCI Bookstore, and
Epictetus’s Discourses, Book I, ch. 6, 14; Book II, ch. 8 (the first
selection in the HCC Reader) prior to coming to the first lecture of fall
quarter.”

awesome that helps a lot, thanks
but i still wonder why I am not getting the e-mail.
