I am applying to HumEc next year, and am currently working on a paper that will most likely get published in a peer reviewed human disabilities and development medical journal. If I get it published, would that be almost a "hook" to HumEc (my intended major is Human Development), or would it help in any way?

Ok thanks, just wondering if that is the kind of thing they look for in EC’s.

…I agree , it would add to your “fit” angle on essays, EC’s, etc. but a “hook” is a specific demographic (race, geographical origin), athlete, or legacy / famous family.

Ok, thanks. I’m really trying to focuss my EC’s on things that will show I am a fit for HumEc. I just got a pretty prestigious internship with a great psychologist today, so hopoefully that will also demonstrate a fit?

Think about it from Cornell’s perspective. If you were an admissions officer, would a paper by an applicant being published make you want them?

Umm…idk actually…no?

Having EC’s “fit” your intended major is overrated (in my humble opinion). I was told my D didn’t have a good chance because her EC’s were all general leadership and not speciifc to her major. She was admitted (human development) with low average stats & no “hook”. I think they are interested in if you are an outstanding person…not that you already know a lot about your intended major.

Oh, ok. Well, these are things I enjoy and am really interested in. I guess it can’t hurt, right?
