^ I was concerned whether you really knew the weather ups and downs, so clearly you do. Subjectvely, both are good schools. Both are beautiful, but BC’s rep, outside sports, may be more regional. Charlottesville is still has very “Southern” influences in its culture. If you know VA and like it, you’ll be fine.

I’d say they are roughly equivalent. Go for fit!

Marita, do you have any other Boston-area schools on your list? (I don’t consider Holy Cross or the Smith/MHC/Amherst schools to be really Boston area, due to the travel time.) If not, that would be a factor in BC’s favor. Generally, I think that U VA has a better reputation overall and is better known outside of hockey/football fan circles. FWIW, I’ve always thought of Georgetown as a better school with a bigger reputation than BC. Not being allowed to major across two schools would be a problem for you, though.

If I were you, my top picks in the Boston area would be Harvard, Wellesley, and Tufts.

I am applying to Harvard, although I don’t expect to get in, but otherwise no. I would like a coed college (so no Wellesley) and I’m not very interested in Tufts, but thanks for the suggestions!

I’ve decided to apply to UVA. Thank you, everyone, for all of your responses!

Then, again, if you’re an All-America sailor and you like the idea of using your education to “go, set the world aflame” (i.e. - help make the world a better place for others) – the Jesuit ethos – then you should also apply to BC .

Being a world-class sailor is optional, by the way!
