if any Reedie stumbles upon this thread, could he/she advise me on following:

How required/recommended are “recommended” and “optional” Humanities 110 books? Do you require them?

Reed wants me to buy unusual mac computer with inflated price while I could get better PC at same cost. can’t you do without mac (or without any computer) at Reed?

Prashant, as I look at last year's Hum 110 syllabus, and also as I recall from my own experience, there aren't a whole lot of "recommended" readings. You're going to have your hands full with the "required" readings on every topic.

A couple of the recommended readings deal with writing and argument -- not substantive or theoretical topics. Whether you need to own those is something you will have to decide, and perhaps after you've turned in your first paper your professor will recommend that you consult one of those.

Personally, I found some of the items that they put on library reserve to be of use as references, and so I bought them, such as the Reader's Guide to Classical Literature (or whatever the title is) and an atlas of world history.

ok I'll buy just the "required" ones.
