So i have written my "Commonapp" transfer essay for Dartmouth and WashU(who dont want require any SPECIFIC essay) and they're around 946 words. But i read on CC here that its supposed to be 250-500 words.I'm confused and stressed about what to take out. Any good writer/editor wanna take a look and help me remove anything so as to shorten it??Please help,I'm very confused now.I want to be done with my essays so that I can focus more on academic work this semester. Please,if you can help, let me know and i will PM you...

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

I would be glad to help if you PM me. I know quite a few editors and I am an avid writer myself.
PS: Around 300-700 words is “acceptable”.

If directions in bold are 250-500 words then I would advise you to stay within the word count limit.

I’m actually really confused about this as well. On the Common App it says 250 words minimum, but doesn’t have a suggested word limit. I know for freshman admissions it’s meant to be around 500, but there’s so much more to explain in a transfer essay! Does anyone who has been through the process have some advice?

The downloadable/printable form says 250-500. The online app says 250+.

I would follow entomom’s advice considering she has been moderating the transfer boards for sometime now. She always advises applicants to stay within the 250-500 word limit.

Use the CA essay for generalities and then the supplemental to articulate your reasons for why school X is a fit.
