So I am strongly leaning towards theatre arts as my major and I am currently looking at these three school for it. I was wondering how each of the programs are at these school and objectively which is the best. I know the latter is subject to opinion but since I couldn’t find much about some of them I decided ask around. Thank you very much.
I am not from CA but my daughter is applying to several schools there because she fell in love with the area. She is not applying to any of those schools. Coincidentally, last night I was looking at the website for Chico State and it looked really beautiful. It’s on a list of schools with good theater programs in a book written by a college audition coach. The UC schools I believe have more well known programs (UCI,UCSB,UCSD and UCLA). Cal State Fullerton also has a good program I believe. They are all non-audition BA programs with the exception of UCSB where you audition in the 2nd year. It really depends also on whether you’re looking for a performance (acting) degree or just a general BA in Theater.
I’m not entirely sure myself (performance or general BA) and yes majors are always subject to change but its something that has really piqued my interest. Chico state looks pretty good in the theatre arts area. Humboldt doesn’t look too extensive. Not too sure about SDSU but I hear it is a good school so its probably pretty decent. And yes I also did apply to CSUF. I applied to UC’s but for the ones you mentioned I only applied to UC Irvine. But thank you for the information!
Do you perchance have the name or a website where you got that info on CSU Chico? It would be greatly appreciated.
As you probably already know, SDSU requires an audition for admission to the BA in Theatre Arts with a performance emphasis (Acting and Musical Theatre). http://ttf.sdsu.edu/index.php/degree_programs/theatre-arts-emphasis-in-performance
SDSU’s general BA Theatre Arts degree does not require an audition for admission, but it is an impacted major, and students who want to major in Theatre Arts must meet certain course and GPA requirements at SDSU.
SDSU is a harder academic admit than Humboldt State or Chico State. SDSU also offers MA Theatre and MFA MT degrees. SDSU is located in a great area for seeing theater and auditioning for community and professional theater. Many of its graduates work in theater in Southern California, and some beyond.
Oh I only heard that for Nursing at SDSU. The only one with the special requirements is those with an emphasis in performance. I know though all majors are impacted. Sorry for such a late response.
