Hung out with the wrong crowd in my first 2 years can i still get into a good school>

I hung out with the wrong type of crowd freshman and sophomore year. I didn’t focus on my goals and homework mostly throwing it all out the window to do bad things and just not what I was supposed to. Subsequently, getting me a 1.8 gpa in both years. I know it’ll be hard but I gathered myself and started talking to better people. I focus on my work and I just wanna go to college and change my life but my question is will my past weigh more than what I do now and in the future?

It depends… the easiest path is going to be doing well in CC then transferring to one of your state schools, possibly a flagship. If you knock it out of the ballpark on your SATs, you could see some good merit aid at some reasonably strong schools. That’s easier said than done - you’d want to be at the National Merit Scholarship level. There will be four year schools that will accept you, but you’re probably going to be full pay.

it can be done! what is your in state flagship & how much can u afford per year? if ur a junior now, u only have 3 semesters left to make an improvement (2nd semester senior year is too late to be considered for admissions purposes). even if u work super hard, i doubt 3 semesters is enough to make ur gpa high enough for significant merit aid - unless of course u knock standardized testing out of the park as groundwork mentioned. if cost is an issue u might think of going the cc route and transferring, & if cost is not an issue then i am sure that there are four year colleges that will accept you with some improvement! keep working!

Many people have turned their life around. If you are a smart person, it will show.
Start working hard now and focus on school. Use tutors and extra help from teachers if you need it.

I agree that you could start at your local community college and then transfer to your state U.
You could also probably get into a local college but I think that it would be best economically to start at your CC.

If you got all As this year, you would apply to college with a 2.5 GPA. If you aced the SAT, that could get you into a university, but your options would still be very limited. My advice, don’t stress over it. Focus on getting good grades and graduating. Then spend a year at community college. You’ll open a lot more options with a good college GPA.

Also keep in mind if you are a good student, that will show through whereever you go. So if you end up being a big fish in small pond, you will stand out.
