Hunter College vs. George Washington University

I am currently debating between Hunter College and George Washington University for a BS in Community Health or BS in Public Health. I will probably go on to get a Master's in Public Health.

I am from California, and I've sailed through a competitive high school with grades that I am pretty proud of. Which of these schools will give me the most academic challenge, internship opportunities, and out-of-state living experiences? Since I plan to continue to get an MPH, I'm wondering whether GW is worth the money or if Hunter will give me enough challenges to make it into a Graduate program.

Hunter has minimal dorms, and 20 blocks from campus, mainly a commuter school.
Unless you live far from campus, the expense of NYC would eat away at the cost difference.

The school gives a good public school education, but the campus is not in great shape.

NYC of course would be full of opportunity, probably DC too.

Hunter is a NYS public school and cost wise a great attraction to NY residents.
GWU would be much better overall, if you can afford it. Probably twice the cost
if you do not get financial aid. They are a bit stingy with merit aid, but could narrow the gap a bit.

Can you give us (tuition+ R&B) - (grants+scholarships) = ?
What’s your parents’ budget?

However, Hunter won’t provide you with the best experience outside of academics and if you did well in high school, GWU is more likely to challenge you. But it’s not worth it to go into debt (outside the federal loans) for GWU…
