Hello everyone !
I’m currently a student of a Kingsborough Community College and I’m finishing my second year, which means I am ready to transfer out. I was accepted to both, Stony Brook and Hunter College. But it’s really hard to make a decision right now. Of course I will be paying much less at Hunter, considering the fact that I live in Brooklyn and I won’t have to pay for the dorm at Hunter. But I heard that hunter is not that great, and classes are huge and professors are not accessible. In Stony I’ll be paying full tuition since I didn’t get any financial aid and also I’ll be paying for the housing/board/food. But maybe Stony b worth spending that amount of money? And also I heard they have an excellent dental school, which will be easier to get in if I study at stony (correct me if I’m wrong). I have 50K on my savings acce and also I’m very hardworking person, I will be able to maintain a good gpa at Stony. So please, help me to decide, or maybe just an advice. I dont have many acquaintances to ask, cuz I just recently moved to us from my home country. Thanks in advance.
P.S I was also accepted to UB and Bing, I love bing, but i was told it’s more liberal arts school :(((
Assuming you didn’t get any significant aid from UB/Bing I’d say save your money and go to Hunter College. Since you’re looking to continue your education beyond a bachelor’s, every cent counts. Graduate dental/health programs are extremely expensive and provide no aid, so debt is nearly inevitable.
In your case I think its better to go to hunter. Stony brook has a good prehealth program but the issue is that the area is kind of lame (for a student at least, although its fine if you want to raise a family), there are limited housing options, there are a lot of commuters and commuting isn’t really that viable for you and while there is stuff to do on campus, new york city just offers more. If you were a high school senior, stony brook would be more viable but seeing as you are a transfer, save your money and go to hunter.
