Just sent in my appication for Huntsman ED.

Do the Chinese people need to take a Penn test when applying to Huntsman? I’m aware that Hindi and Arabic do, but what about Chinese?

My SAT II Chinese scores are low (high 700s…but no 800), but my HSK (Chinese proficiency) examination scores were high (the second time around they increased more than a hundred points). So…is there any need to prove myself more?

Also, I speak another dialect of Chinese at home. We don’t speak Mandarin constantly. Do you think they’ll still view Mandarin as my native language?

Thanks!

I think they dont care if Mandarin is your native or not. They know that you don't speak english as your first language and that is it. You should have taken TOEFL and got high scores.

Basically taking SAT II for chinese is not that effective because you're suppose to be good already. If you have your other exam score, it can definately help back up your chinese SAT but again it doesn't play a major role in your admission.

I am not so sure about the test so someone else will have to answer that. If you didn't take the test theres nothing you can do since you applied already. If you take the test after you get accepted then it really doesn't matter to you.

I expect you would have good grades (3.8+ GPA) and some ECs and awards because i know Huntsman is even more selective than getting in PENN itself.

Good Luck Getting In!

Wait...why would I take the TOEFL? I've grown up in the US... I consider English my native language. But thanks!

For Huntsman, a majority of the time, they'll send you a test for fluency two/three weeks before the official decisions are out. For a majority of the huntsman kids, getting the test is a sign that they're considering you, but not a sign that you're in. There are also a few people every year that gets in without the test, but yea, a majority of huntsman kids get the test. Good luck. :).
