Anyone have any info on those two dorms?

as you probably know, hurlbut and pennypacker are 2 of the 3 union dorms, so they’re not in the yard (greenough is the other one). i don’t know much about the layout of hurlbut. i think it’s four floors and each floor is like 6 or 7 singles (or pods) on a hallway and one suite of 5 or 6. one of my friends got hurlbut last year and really liked it. the suites are pretty spacious and the people in the pods have a sweet little common area in the hall to just chill and hang out.
pennypacker is all suites of 4 and 5 i think. all the common rooms that i went in were pretty spacious but the bedrooms were pretty small. it just depends. cool little marble stairway and they were the best IM sports team (but i guess that changes every year).
most important thing to keep in mind is that the people in your dorm are what make it cool, not the building itself.

Pennypacker is farther from the yard (it’ll take more effort to get to the dining hall and the yard but you’ll get used to this after a bit). Rooms in the “pack” are either suites of four or five or doubles, and compared to the size of many yard dorms, the suites are large! There is an in-suite bath (the most convenient thing ever) and a common room. The dorm itself doesn’t have a common room and you’ll need to head over to Hurlbut to do your laundry/take out your trash.

Ultimately, it is the people though Have the freshman received their housing yet? We still haven’t…

Damn, no laundry room?
Does Pennypacker have a kitchen?

Does you suppose all the Harvard freshman dorms are named after real people, or did some of them get named by the President and Fellows after a pub crawl? Pennypacker? Wigglesworth? Hurlbut and Hollis? (Similar concepts if you say them really fast.) If there really were people with names like these, is it plausible that they could have nonetheless become successful enough to have Harvard buildings named for themselves?

FWIF, worst two dorms at harvard categorically speaking, so no matter where you live sophomore year, it’s bound to be better.

^ What about Greenough? How does it fare in your best-worst metric?

above average to very good

alicimoo, sorry, there’s no kitchen in pennypacker or hurlbut. SO, we usually invade greenough’s kitchen (which isn’t used that frequently anyways).

So what are the best two freshman dorms?

Straus is by far the best. Apley Court is good too.

;)

Apley is luxurious though outside the yard; Straus I guess is convinient especially if you
are into performing arts; I personally liked Weld and Matthews.

What’s so great about Weld and Matthews?

How is canaday?

Weld - I am a Crichton fan
Matthews - you can view such exotic beauty ;)

So there’s nothing special about Weld and Matthews actual building/location?

Weld, Matthews and Canaday all have great spots in the Yard.

How do we get drinking water? Do we have to buy a water cooler/water bottles ourselves? :(

And how long does it take to get to Annenberg/Science Center?
I’m currently planning my courses…and 3 of them are back to back with one located near Hurlbut/Pennypacker and the following class at the Science Center.

Whatever happened to just drinking tap water?

Hey! I’m going to harvard SSP and am staying at hurlbut room 101, is that a singles or a suite? does anyone have pictures or something of the inside of the dorm? i know this post is way out of time but was just wondering if anyone could help. thanks :)
