Do you guys know what schools have extended their deadlines for those affected by Sandy? I might get evacuated and as much as I'd love an extension I'd like to know if I should take stuff for essay writing along with me.

Columbia University extended their Early Decision deadline from November 1st to November 5th.

Penn has extended. From the Admissions website:

Please be advised that the deadline for admission under the Early Decision Program has been extended to Tuesday, November 6, 2012. To apply to the University of Pennsylvania you must complete and submit both the Common Application and the Penn Supplement to the Common Application.

Yale has also extended their deadlines

anyone know about UChicago/any other non-coastal schools?

what about Harvard? this is so crazy!

You can look this stuff up on the respective school’s website…

Duke moved to Nov 4th. I got emails from Duke, Penn, and Columbia, but everything should be on the school websites.

would it only be for North Eastern schools? or is that just a coincidence?

i think coincidence. It might partially be because their admissions officers wont start looking at apps until a little later but im inclined to think these decisions are based on a large amount of applicants being without power.

Though many northeastern schools get a lot of their students from long island and other costal areas.

combination of both maybe?

The extended time for all students or just for the students of east coast?

UChicago seems to have something on their Twitter, so probs not only East Coast.

Harvard has followed suit:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/1409139-harvard-hurricane-sandy-early-action-deadlines.html

Any word about Brown, Notre Dame, Binghamton?

I have all of my materials together but I’m missing a teacher rec letter which I can’t get because of the hurricane. I can submit everything else except the “School Forms” right? This is for Stanford EA by the way. Thanks.

Again, you can look this up on the school’s respective websites. The people posting here do not have “inside information.”

Boston College I believe is extending their November 1st Early Action Deadline (Or at least, they are being lenient with it)

“if you are planning to apply to Johns Hopkins University as an Early Decision candidate and have not yet submitted your application, please note that we will be accepting submissions past the November 1st deadline for students in areas affected by Hurricane Sandy. We encourage applicants to submit their application as close to the original deadline as possible but will work with applicants to accommodate complications due to the severe weather.
The university is closed today, Monday, October 29, so we are unable to respond to application inquiries until the university reopens. Please check our website, apply.jhu.edu, or call the Johns Hopkins University weather emergency line at 410-516-7781(toll-free at 1-800-548-9004) for further announcements about closings.”

SO JHU will accept late apps but hasnt actually extended the due date

Yeah, that’s basically what Harvard said.

Illinois at Urbana pushed it back to 11/6. Email sounds like it was tailored to the north east. After submitting the app you gotta send them an email explaining your circumstances.
