Hurricane Gustav headed for New Orleans. GET OUT NOW!

Tulane and Xavier? GET OUT NOW.

Bobby Jindal is going to order evacuation today. President Bush has ordered Emergency help to Louisiana.

Hurricane Hanna also right behind Gustav!

Its a cat4 now and will be a cat5 when it hits the US. Likely target is New Orleans. But Mobile, Biloxi, Gulfport, Pensacola are all in its path as well. GET OUT NOW.

this isnt a weather blog how do your posts relate to college search at all

Tulane and Loyola closed down Friday, with dorms shut down today (Saturday). Everyone is out. Please keep them all in your thoughts and prayers.

This is a terrifying deja vu.

I will never understand why it was considered important to rebuild New Orleans, a city which no matter what is done architecturally will because of its proximity to Lake Ponchetrain and the Miss. will continue to be a disaster waiting to happen.

I thought that rebuilding New Orleans was just as stupid as it would have been to rebuild Pompeii after the eruption if the volcano was still active.

i live in new york so we dont really deal with hurricanes other than maybe a day of rain we might get from a remnant of one or something.. but i will keep you all in my prayers =)

we got sum rainz =)

Northstarmom, New Orleans has significant historical value for the people living there. It would be heartbreaking to see such an icon of that area's heritage not be rebuilt.

On the other hand, I do agree that, given the recent intensification of storms in that area, that perhaps it would be better to wait until we have the technology to truly remake it safely than to rebuild it in a hurry. The logistics are difficult in any case: you can rebuild a city over and over at great expense, or you can build a whole new city somewhere else at great expense, or you can just spread everyone out to different cities in the area.
