Hurricanes

I'm an international student and am interested in going to Rollins. When I saw that Rollins is in Florida, the first thing that came to my mind was hurricanes. So, what is the hurricane situation like? Is it hit hard every year or is it away from the "line of fire" ;)?
Also how highly regarded is the economics department as I wish to go to grad school in economics after my undergraduate degree.

Also, how close is it to Miami or any other big city with a well large international airport?

bump bump bumpity bump

helloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

bump bump

buuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmpppppppppp

It wastes people’s time to ask questions that you easily can find out by looking at a map. Rollins is next to Orlando, which has a large international airport since Disney World, which is in Orlando, is one of the world’s top tourist destinations. Rollins is about a 40 min. – max – drive from that airport.

As for hurricanes, Florida is hit by hurricanes every year. Florida, however, is a big state, so that doesn’t mean Rollins will be hit by hurricanes every year, though. To my knowledge, Rollins has never been hit hard by hurricanes, but you probably could find out more about the history by using Google.

Four or five years ago Rollins was hit by three hurricanes (Charley, Jeanne, Francis). It’s really not that big of a deal though. If you’re unfortunate enough to not find someone’s house to stay in (Orlando doesn’t evacuate except for low-lying areas because it’s not close to the coast) you can stay in Rollins’ science building or in the dorms, depeding on what school officials say. This year’s freshman class came in when a tropical storm hit, and were in lockdown for 24 hours, but the storm wasn’t as bad as predicted. The only other hurricane to hit the area since I’ve been here (6 years) was Wilma, and that hit South Florida rather than Central (Orlando area). There’s been a few tropical lows, depressions, and storms, but none of serious note. Don’t worry about them really.
