I would enjoy advice on how to market oneself.

A big problem I found in the application process is the difficulty of marketing oneself- what kind of routes can someone take?

Any advice is welcome and desired- thanks!

You simply talk about what makes you special when compared to rest of the application pool. Just be honest and talk about your hobbies and what you enjoy; your essays will be that much fun to read. As an example, remember if you apply to Caltech that everybody is smart and loves math a science, so trying to talk about that will detract from your personality.

And be creative, one of the essays that I wrote for the college I will be attending next year had me writing a generic essay about myself. So, to counter the blandness, I submitted an essay describing myself as a three dimensional function of two variables mapped in R3.
