Hybrids, cruisers or fixies?

Hello,

I really enjoy riding fixies, and I would like to take one with me to UCD. Would you recommend this? I’m afraid it will get stolen, or not be convenient.

Thank you.

there are a lot of people who ride fixies; as long as you have a sturdy U-lock, you should be fine.

But dear god, PLEASE don’t bring a cruiser. They give those of us who don’t ride cruisers a a pain, especially when we have to get our bike out from the bike racks and it just so happens to be sandwiched inbetween two cruisers. And I don’t know why, but a majority of the time, I’ve seen double-parked cruisers next to a rack that’s already being used.

I personally ride a road bike, but fixies or hybrids work great also. I also agree that parking next to cruisers is a pain :stuck_out_tongue: plus, they’re not very conducive to biking quickly or long distances.

And just make sure you lock your bike up really well. Honestly, thieves can pretty much cut through any chain/ulock. It’s mostly a matter of making it not worth their effort. It’s unfortunate but it’s the truth. If you’re really worried about it, get a cheap Wal-Mart bike while in the dorms and a better one once you have an apartment/house to store your bike in at night.

I literally bought the ugliest bike I could for $50. It’s a mountain bike, it works fine, and no one is going to steal it. I’ve forgotten to lock it a number of times.
