Recommendations for bikes?

Hi! So I would like some opinions and recommendations on what i should do about bringing a bike to Davis. Please keep in mind that i know nothing about bikes!
I currently have a cruiser bike that has 7-gears, which i was planning to bring to davis, because apparently they can’t be taken apart. But i hear that cruisers aren’t as good. Opinions?
I also have my sisters old mountain bike (i think) but i think the wheels can easily be taken off.
Since I’m not that good with bikes, i want to go with the bike thats easier to handle/ lock and ride. Should I buy a different bike?
I would like to know asap so i can get fenders and locks for the specific bike. And also- would you recommend getting a bike light?

thanks!

Stay with the 7-speed Cruiser. Front and Tail lights are always good. You want to be seen at night. Fenders are good so that your back doesn’t get soaked when you ride in the rain.

You legally need a front bike light at night.

I personally would recommend a road bike, but of those two I’d say the cruiser since you want something easy.

If you have the money, single-speed road bike with front and rear fenders and lights. Also, a good U-lock. If you don’t have the money for a new bike, still buy the accessories listed.

Did you buy any of these bikes from a Wal-Mart? If you can, take the one that wasn’t, but more importantly, take the one that fits and works the best. You don’t want to be stranded in-between classes with mechanical problems. The quick-release on your sister’s bike is nice when you get flats as it takes out one extra tool but isn’t a make-or-break thing.

im not sure where the cruisers from, i won it at a raffle ahha. i think my sisters bike would be easier to ride but would that mean i’d need to take off the tires when i lock the bike?

also, does anyone have any good recommendations for brands of good bike locks?

You wouldn’t need to take your tires with you as long as you lock them up. And if it’s during the day you could probably get away with just locking up your back (most exposed) tire. And I know kryptonite locks are pretty good.
