I know that you guys don’t know me, and so you can’t judge which major would be best for me. Right now, I’m looking at either Accounting/Finance, Statistics and Computer Science, or Computer Engineering.
I want to know which major would provide me with the most job opportunities, potential to grow, highest starting salary, things like that.
Engineering and finance normally have the highest starting salary. I commented on a previous post of yours saying we need more what your interested in and that’s the same here. All these jobs have good potential growth and have a good job outlook.
You know, u have to do this for the rest of your life. Rather than pick on salary, how about picking something you can see yourself doing for 7000+ days of your life and not hate.
@GMTplus7 I am looking at that…I just am looking for starting salary so I can support myself. Though that isn’t the most important factor, it still is important.
You can support yourself with the starting salary in any of those fields. They’re all well-paying fields.
The question is not which major will provide you with the most job opportunities. The question is which will provide you with job opportunities you actually want. There are tons of openings for software engineers but none of that matters if you hate writing code, for example. Quality and not quantity is what’s important here.
They all have great potential for you to grow.
I mean, without me knowing you the answer I would give is statistics, but that’s because I’m biased - I love statistics and there are lots of options in that field and the related field of data science (as well as operations research and other related fields for people with statistical knowledge). Even though the field of computer science might be slightly more lucrative on average, I’d pick statistics if I were making the choice because the every day tasks of statisticians appeal to me a whole lot more.
