She knows I take the car out to drive and practice.
She knows that I drive safely since she’s been with me and trusts me with the car. I actually have my test coming up but it just happens that today was not my day.

She trusts you to do what? Drive and not get into accidents? Uh…fail.

Your mother had a complete lapse in judgement for letting you drive w/o a license. It’s illegal and her insurance may not cover any damage that you caused.

I was rear-ended last Thursday. the damaged seemed almost tiny, I almost let it go. When I took it to the shop yesterday, I was told that there is 1700 in damages…some of it underneath and not visible by just looking at the car when it’s on the ground.

Although this is your fault, I hope that your mom understands that it’s her fault as well…maybe even more so.

I can’t imagine that your mother’s insurance would cover an illegal driver. So if you got in a wreck where someone was hurt, your parents could lose everything.

Well the way it works is you need to get a police report if you need to get the insurance company to pay. And it wasn’t a major accident and nobody got hurt so its not a big deal. People open car doors and slam them into the car they park next to all the time and nobody cares. But if the insurance company finds out then your insurance payments get thru the roof and they will think you are a bad driver. This guy was 17 and he hit my parents car and totaled it and he was drunk and then he drove away cause he didn’t want to get in trouble. But then he went back to the police and told them what he did and why he left and they didn’t even put down that he was drunk and left the scene just to help him out so he wouldn’t loose his license and get insurance problems. That was kind of cool that they did that but it was bad that he left after crashing into our car.

My friend’s son was killed when the unlicensed driver he was with hit a tree. The driver lived but has permanent mental impairment. Your mom is insane to let you drive without a license, period. Stop doing it NOW.Sorry, no sympathy. And, yeah, you should leave a note, though your mom will have to take legal responsibility for the accident, since it is her car and she let you take it.

(True, MaineLonghorn, but don’t you think this thread has important information for others who may be in a similar situation?)
