I already assigned recommenders but one of them says she can't upload the file???

I already assigned recommenders but one of them says she can't upload the file.
Her computer is too old and has not been updated, so the file could not be uploaded.
She says that she wants me to send forms to her via e-mail and that she would send me the completed forms via mail.

Is it okay that she sends me the letter and I send a copy of it to each college?

Exactly what forms do I need to send her? (I'm homeschooled, so I don't know much about the letter of rec process)

I would appreciate it if you could help.

If you do decide to mail it (that’s what I ended up doing for one teacher) there should be a link under the assign recommenders option for a teacher evaluation if they choose not to upload it directly to CA. There you will find a teacher evaluation that you can give to your teacher and then photocopy to each college you are sending it to.

Thank you for your reply, @shawnspencer‌! However, I haven’t been able to find the option you mentioned.

bump…?

I don’t have access to the new commonapp, but the form should look something like this

https://appsupport.commonapp.org/link/portal/33011/33013/Article/780/Training-Resources-Library

See the “Offline teacher recommendation” form.

@shawnspencer‌ oh great! Thank you so much. I found it :)

bump for the first question… :(

Do you think a student can send the letter to each college once the teacher mails it to the student?

My son had the same problem. We think the problem has to do with the letterhead they used. Two of his recommenders used letterhead with a graphic and neither could upload their letters. The other recommenders used letterhead containing no graphic and had no problem. With regard to your question about mailing the recommendations, that is exactly what we did. We did ask the recommenders to put them in a sealed envelope and sign their name across the back of the letter (over the flap). It has not been a problem for any of the schools he applied to. He won’t hear from the other schools for a while yet, but his files at those schools are showing that they are complete.

@davenmame‌ Hello. Thank you for your reply! I’m kind of confused about sending the letters to colleges. So were you the one who sent it to each college? Or did your son’s recommenders have to mail them to colleges? Is it okay if I make copies of my recommender’s letter (after she mails it to me) and send one to each college I’m applying to?

anyone…? bump :(

My son had the recommenders who were unable to upload their letters in a sealed envelope with their signature across the back flap to him at our home address. I then took them and mailed them from the post office to the colleges (I sent them priority so I could track them to be sure they were delivered).

@davenmame‌ oh ok. Thank you very much. I think I’ll be applying to a little more than 10 schools, so I don’t really want to be a bother… Can I receive the mail once and then make copies of it? Does the envelope need a signature?

The only problem with making copies of them has to do with that FERPA statement. When you agree to that FERPA statement on the common app, the recommenders are writing the letters with the knowledge that you won’t see the recommendation. Since your other recommenders were able to upload their letters, do you really need to send the letter that couldn’t be uploaded to every school you apply? I’m asking - not criticizing - trying to keep your cost of mailing down. The reason for their signature was to show that you hadn’t opened it - the signature would be “broken” if you unsealed it. This method was suggested by one of the schools he was applying to.

@davenmame‌ Each of the schools I’m applying to needs 2 recommendation letters. Also, this one is from the teacher who knows me the best so I can’t exclude her letter :frowning: I’m a homeschooled student and she lives too far away from here. So I was wondering if there’s any way I can make it easier… I thought making her send the letter to 12 different schools would be too much. I’ll ask her if she can give me her address so that I can send all the envelopes to her address. Thank yoh for helping!
